This goes way back but I wanted to see if anyone has exp with this? I have been following www.lymemd.blogspot.com and he had a patient who had a great recovery, he thinks from the Invanz she was given in the hospital.
It goes after anything with a cell wall, incl. gram neg and gram pos bacteria.

I will be starting Meropenem in a couple weeks which is in the same class of drugs as Invanz.
This class of drugs seems very strong. It claims to be effective for gram neg, gram pos and anaerobic bacteria. The drugs are claimed to be used for MRSA, meningitis and specifically brain infections.

Has anyone heard of helidac? It is a combo product of tetracycline, metronidazole, and bismuth. Oral.

.....lou that doesn't sound like it would work. The bismuth, being a metal, would inactivate the tetracycline.

Oh. Well I thought it sounded promising because oral bismuth was once used with syphilis. I wonder why the maker of this med would combine these things, if the bismuth would inactivate tetra?
It turns out not to be a pill but the name of a therapy that combines these three elements, and is used with an acid blocker in treating H. pylori infections. Here is what they say about combining with other things:
"Do not take dairy products, iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives within 2 hours of taking tetracycline. These products reduce the effectiveness of tetracycline."
So, from these I presume that bismuth would not be a problem, but iron, calcium, Mg would be. Don't know about zinc, which some of us are taking.
