UPDATE: Saw LLMD yesterday. Yes to Bart. Prescribed Rifamprin 300 m? per 3 hours(will increase to 600 if I handle the herxes).
I'll continue iv doxy 400mg per 4 hours. This means I'll be hooked up 7 hours a day-
Sure hope this works!!! Any iv Rifamprin veterans out there? Tell me your stories
thanks, wantabe
--------------------------------------------------- Any ideas why spider veins (small capillaries by the surface of the skin) are breaking and spreading?
I have noticed this within the last 2-3 weeks on both of my thighs and around my knees.
I always thought these were more weight related, but since starting Lyme treatment/diet, I'm down to a size 6.
I haven't changed supplements/drugs other then stopping oral antibiotics and starting iv doxy and flush w/heprin & saline 5 weeks ago.
Haven't changed activity other then been able to rest more and be even more lazy with the summer off. I did start infrared saunas about 5 weeks ago. No sun time for me...
Not a major problem- no beauty pageants scheduled in the near future just wondering if turning 40 really is when it all starts to fall apart or if I can blame this on the Lyme....

I would suggest 2 possibilities -- deficiency in Vitamin C or Bartonella infection.

I have heard bart causes spider veins as well. I had some since I was young and they went away while I was on Biaxin. I received a new spider vein since I have been off of Biaxin on my face.

Bart is the first thing to come to my mind.

All the above true, genetics also play a role and putting pressure on your legs, like standing all day can cause them to increase.
I have bart and I have way more veins then my friends at age 24...genetics or lyme for me i think both...

I have started to get them very suddenly too, and I thought it was weird, though no one else around me seemed concerned about it....
I also started taking a beta blocker and stopped taking Midodrine, so who knows. Both have to do with circulation.
But there are tons of them, and they are very tiny. A few are big though. I am only 24. I thought it was really fishy.

It is definitly Bartonella ( VEFG ) ...the chemical that bart create when in body .
You are treating lyme and now BART is raising its ugly head.It might have been there but now is active.

I've had a similar experience, mainly around the knees. It happened suddenly along with odd bart like striae on the inside of the knee.
My fibromyalgia doctor said it is normal and happens as one ages but I thought all along that it was bart. It's good to hear others mention this in conjunction with bart.

First thing I thought of just from reading your title, was, what are you doing that might be removing fibrin from your blood. There are a cdouple of things that would do that. Digestive enzymes and heparin.
Low and behold, you are gitting a minut amount of heparin in your flushes.
Many of us have hypercoagulation which clogs the smallest of blood vessels. Clogs them to the point they disappear. Clear the fibrin away and they again fill with blood making them more visible.
When I started heparin for hypercoagulation years ago, I started having a number of spider viens show up. You don't have to be taking much heparin for it to help clear out excessive fibrin.
Also, you may be taking digestive enzymes, which can also do the same for fibrin excess.

Bart was neg. when tested in Nov.-- but many symptoms fit- major headaches, night sweats, leg pain, noise & light irritants, and low grade fever of unknown origin to name a few.
Headaches and irritability has increased again in the last 3 weeks.
Can someone explain why Bart shows up when treating for Lyme & Ehrlichosis? Does that mean I have made headway on somethng?
So will the Doxy be enough to catch it? What will help w/the irritability? I don't even like being around myself lately...

it was the same to me....After my ehrlichia was almost gone -bart was going crazy ...no doxy will not help on bart
you need to do the combo -doxy , rifampin and azithromax...and pulse flagyl at least 6-9 months...that is the first try and you will see results...

Are your spider veins classic spider veins or smaller?
Mine are like tiny spider veins....but they are tiny straight lines that are only like a quarter of an inch long. There will be maybe 20 in one area. It almost looks like some sort of weird confetti.
Sometimes they fade but sometimes they are stronger. Anyone have this?
And, did your LLMD say your veins were due to Bart?
To those who think treating other infections brought out Bart, do you think that that implies we should be treating Bart first? (this topic is my latest big ?, I started a thread about it)
Or, that phenomenon could be explained as the Bart is actually being treated by whatever you guys are taking for Lyme/Erlichia....so it is making itself apparent.

Most run vertically and spread horizontally across my thighs and around my knees. They are very small and evenly spaced apart.
They are clustered as if in sections. Color is dark purple to a violet red. Average 1-2 inches in length.
I also had a few red bumps in the area that had recently arrived w/out cause.
LLMD had just returned from shadowing Dr. J and said without a doubt-Bart. She had seen many kids with the same thing and Dr. J was treating them for Bart for this reason.
Had been treating positive Lyme and erhlichiosis w/ doxy, cefdinir and azithromycin at different times and doses since last Christmas. Started iv doxy at the end of May.
I was not positive bart when tested in November, so was not treating for it. I think targeting and hitting the erhlichiosis allowed the Bart to move in and dominate new problems- my opinion...
It would be interesting to retest and see if it shows (no $$$ though)
LLMD stated Bart is tough to get...let the Bart bombs drop!

They say that often when you are treating something and making progress other infections come out from hiding to take over.
So yes, you are probably making headway!

Actually Zith will treat Bart to a degree - it is used for pediatric Bartonella. My LLMD and I were considering it for me because I'm so sensitive to everything, but instead started me on a pediatric dose of Rifampin and I ramped up very slowly over a period of months. Herxed horribly. Never made it to a full dose, but was on a moderate dose for a long time (hope the Bart isn't resistant by now).
That's when the spider veins showed up on me.
I've had the Bart red dots and pimples for a long time.
