My girl was infected with Lyme congenitally.
Elisa negative and WB IgM showing p39, IgG neg but showing p31 and p34.
So the testing was "indecisive" but for me it was well enough!

We decided to give her 3 months of abx (though symptomfree) azithromycin between she was 10 months and 13 months.

My girl is now 2 years old and has been dx with GERD.
This does NOT run in the family.

I suspect Lyme, but I suppose children can have this disorder w/o lyme as well.

She is now on omeprazol for this condition since 4 months.

I find she is improving, but everytime she catches a cold her lungs get affected and she has heavy breathing and cough.
X-rays show nothing, the lungs are fine. Also excluded mucovisicidoe (cysytic fibrosis)

She also has had 1 eye infection and was prescibed rifampin droplets that cleared the condition.

She seems very happy and has lots of energy, but easily catches colds.

Should she be retreated for lyme? What do you think?

I caught every cold that came along until I started taking Host Defense by New Chapter which is made from medicinal mushrooms. It has been working very well for me. Maybe you can find out if it is okay for children to take it.

I have no financial connection to the company that makes it. I just think it is a good product which has made a big difference in my immune function.

I would also get her tested for Lyme disease.

My twin boys both had colds all of the time and they lasted 2 weeks or more. They also got a lot of ear infections.

They were diagnosed at age 4 but were both bitten by several ticks from our yard starting at around 20 months old.

I recently tested positive for lyme, but I am not sure if I had lyme when they were born but I suspect that I did b/c after their birth I had some numbness and tingling in my hands and feet, as well as sore feet in the morning when I woke up. I also had a sore throat for a year after that.

I suspect my 2 year old daughter may have gotten it from me, but she shows very few symptoms and only showed band 41 on her test. She did have a positive fry blood smear for hemobart/mycoplasma.

I have heard that sometimes kids may not show symptoms until they are around 3, if they were infected congenitally.

You might start a thread asking how long congential lyme kids were treated. I am guessing 3 months might not be enough, but who knows. I plan to ask Dr. J that question in October when we have our next appointment with him.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for replies!

Alv, that is a horrible story, 4 years of Losec for Lyme....
Thank you for sharing it, makes me want to retreat her.

Again, I do not want to be an over-anxious mum, but with this disease that has struck me so hard, I suppose it is better to treat than wait and see.

Does anybody know if it is safe to combine omeprazole with azithromycin?

Best to you all!

Does she take a vitamin? People nowadays (as in the past at different times) are suffering from 1 or more nutritional deficiencies: Vitamin D3, Iodine, and/or omega3 fatty acids...we need these things for our bodies to function properly to meet the challenges of microbes, stress, toxins. Since you live in Sweden, vitamin D would be at the top of the list.
