A few years ago my dentist thought I had lichen planus (well, actually I searched for it on the internet and asked him about it), but the specialist wanted to take a big chunk out to test, and I just didn't want to do that, as they did not seem to have any cure for it whether I had it or not.
I had not had anything like that prior to lyme abx, but am not sure whether that was related. ( I was on oral abx for a long time as I was (surprise) dianosed 6 years too late! Have been off abx for 5 months now, and the last time I was in my dental hygenist seemed to think I still had it.
I use Bioteen toothpaste and mouthwash, which seems to have calmed down my mouth, but the hygenist is still concerned about my gums...and I take really good care of my teeth, so it must be related to the lyme infection or treatment, as I had great teeth and gums before. We hope the lyme is really gone, or sufficiently subdued, but the damage remains I suppose.
Will be interested to hear more responses as I have had little luck finding out much about lichen planus. Best wishes!
Ann
