This promises to be the most exciting Lyme event Vermont has ever seen!!!!
Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro to Host Provocative Lyme Disease Movie, Followed by Q & A with Lyme Expert Dr. Rex Carr & Author Pamela Weintraub (Cure Unknown)
Confused about the controversial subject of Lyme disease? Think it is a simple infection easily cured by a couple of weeks of antibiotics? Were you treated for Lyme but found you relapsed months or years later? Are you always sick but your Doctor tells you there is nothing wrong with you? The Disturbing movie UNDER OUR SKIN is what director Andy Abrahams Wilson calls "a chilling tale of the pursuit of profit and prestige at the expense of science and very sick patients." Join us at the historic Latchis Theatre in downtown Brattleboro for the screening of the movie, "Under Our Skin" as shocking details about Lyme disease are revealed by both patients and Doctors. The movie will be followed by a Q & A with the author of the book Cure Unknown by Pamela Weintraub. Pam is a literary and investigative science journalist. She is senior editor at Discover magazine. Joining her on the Q & A panel will be Lyme disease expert Dr. Rex Carr from Hanover NH. The Lyme Awareness Art Project (LAAP), founded by Brattleboro artist and Lyme sufferer Linda Marcille, has arranged this event and will be displaying the emotionally charged paintings and poetry created by people who live with Lyme disease and must deal with its myriad of symptoms and treatments. UNDER OUR SKIN is a powerful and often terrifying look not only at the science and politics of the disease, but also the personal stories of those whose lives have been affected and nearly destroyed. From a few brave doctors who risk their medical licenses, to patients who once led active lives but now can barely walk, the film uncovers a hidden world that will astound viewers. While exposing a broken health care and medical research system, the film also gives voice to those who believe that instead of a crisis, Lyme is simply a "disease du jour," over diagnosed and contributing to another crisis: the looming resistance of microbes and ineffectuality of antibiotics. The case for the existence of chronic Lyme disease is powerfully made in "Under Our Skin." We see many people seriously ill, hear stories of hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on treatments that do not work, and learn of others who have died from what their survivors believe was Lyme Disease. Aside from those suffering from the disease, we also learn about brave doctors who treat chronic Lyme disease patients and risk having their licenses revoked, ultimately suggesting that the state of Lyme disease treatment is as much a political condition as a medical one. If the state of Lyme disease is in reality a political and economic matter more than a medical one, drastic action needs to be taken. Lives are at stake. This film is a wake-up call that should reverberate through legislature, as well as doctors' offices and research facilities across our country. Hopefully it will lead to definitive research on Lyme that will save lives, possibly even give us clues about some maladies that have no known cause. This movie is a must see for anyone who's been diagnosed with, or has a loved one that has been diagnosed with, Fibromyalgia, MS, CFS, Lupus, ALS, or any other neurological disorder.
This is the final event screening before the film goes into theatrical release, made possible by special arrangement with the film's co-producer Eve Morgenstern.
Join LAAP on Saturday, November 15th at 4:00pm at the Latchis Theatre 50 Main Street in downtown Brattleboro, VT. Guest speakers; Author of Cure Unknown, Pam Weintraub & Dr. Rex Carr, a Lyme Literate Physician will be present to speak on Lyme and answer questions after the movie. You may contact the Brattleboro Arts Initiative at 802- 254-1109

What can I say? This was just so awesome! There were probably close to 200 people there (of course, some came from MA, or NY)in our little state of VT, where there is no lyme (lol)
Dr. C and Pam did a wonderful job answering questions for over 2 1/2 hrs!
The Lyme Awareness Art Project was also on display - see first post for site link. The theater is a beautiful place and the artwork stood out splendidly.
Made you want to get right up and throw tomatoes at Steere, et al!
