I've had this happen twice now. I start running and fever, my throat hurts, tonsils are swollen and have patches of white on them and I always test negative to strep (plus I'm on antibiotics that would kill strep anyway). So is this a result of mono activating again or do I keep catching tonsilitis. I ask because I'm staying with my parents and my mom is a complete slob, coughs on me, food, everything (refuses to cover her mouth). If I keep getting tonsilitis from her then I should probably stay with my sister or something.

Lyme likes strep! try penicilin for strep.amoxicillin or cephalexin or erythromycin.

Not being a doctor, not sure I can help.

I do know that my daughter was told she had mono and as it turned out, it was bartonella.

Not saying that is what is going on in your case since I don't have a clue.

But she would get mono or else these sore throats everytime she would stress (ie finals in college) and was always being given abx at the college health place.

She didn't seem to get rid of all these "sore throats" until being on bart treatment for many months.

Good luck.

Cathy

My daughter has had the same thing from Flagyl on two occassions. Swollen glands and sore neck too. Those were also some of her first symptoms 5 years ago.

Weird, yeah my neck hurts and my glands are swollen around there too. I don't know why it keeps doing this. I know it's not strep that's all.
