Have any of you read of personaly noticed an increased need for magnesium based on body weight? If 600-900 mg per day is typical to sustain Mg, is this for an average weight person?

I'm wondering just how high can you go safely? Particularly with magnesium citrate. Trying to digest 1,500 mg+ of glycinate or other pill forms is just absurd. I'd be popping pills non-stop.

I'm thinking Natural Calm powdered Mg. Any thoughts?

I was told that magnesium dosage is based on individual need or tolerance (my ND and LLMD). You are supposed to keep increasing your dose until you experience diarrhea then back down slightly from that dose and continue from there.

Currently i'm taking between 1500 and 2000mg mag malate per day (NOW brand). If my stools start getting looser I back down some if getting constipated I work up again.

I've never tried the Natural Calm brand. You might just need to try different brands to see what works best for you. Some types of mag may be too harsh (citrate and oxide for example) where others might be more gentle and easily absorbed (glycinate and Malate).

Sammy,

How many capsules of Malate is this? That must be a TON.

Is it possible to empty the contents of the capsules into juice and drink the mixture instead of swallowing 25-30 capsules?

I use Natural Calm and tablet form. I take about one tablespoon of Nat Calm before bed and one 500 mg tab citrate and one 400 mg tab oxide during the day.

I don't get loose bowels from this, so I need more. My Chiro wrote a book on Magnesium...claims that you cannot get too much, don't know if this is true or not.

I have just completed two books on magnesium therapy. According to these books, oral magnesium is not well utilized by the body. We will never get enough via oral tabs.

You may want to look into transdermal mag, magnesium oil, and mag spray for your pits. It is absorbed this way much better....that or IV mag.

Hope this helps,
Feelfit

Thanks Feelfit. I don't think i can absorb enough either. I am just SO tired of this relentless neck and upper back tension. My neck is so tight I can't talk on the phone without running out of breath. It's simply due to severe neck / jaw spasms. Transdermal Mg is SO SO expensive. I read several studies indicating transdermal Mg is useless and doesn't get absorbed better. The same with IV Mg. Who knows what the H### to believe?

BTW, are those Chiro supplements makign a difference? Did anything that practicioner recommended help one bit? [Smile]

Why do we read so many books, educate ourselves so much, but it seems very few ever see major health improvements? it's frustrating.

Seek,

It wasn't the same Chiro who gave me the supps and who is into Magnesium. 2 different ones.

The mag guy says that I can get well with magnesium alone....yeah. The supp guy gave me too many at once, who knwe what was doing what...oh yeah, he "tested" for them.

All I know is that I felt crappier....if that is even possible. For me it's one thing at a time now. I'm down to basics.

As for who to believe, Right, who the hell knows until we try, or go by instinct, or wave a pendulum or whatever.

One study will say "yes" the next "no". Years down the road the studies will say differently again.

It's all a crap shoot. I'm very tired of this too. I'm in a bad mood. Tired of being the walking dead.

I'm going to try the mag oil and spray. I'll let you know.

I did get a Meyers Cocktail from our C and my floaters went away and my eyes weren't blurry fro three days, but today, back to square one.

Or it could have been the glutathione push that did it...again hard to tell.
