Ok, so I have been looking into the reasons for my MCS and horrible reactions to mold/yeast.

We know that yeast produces aldehydes and we know that Flagyl cannot be mixed with alcohol because it inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase.

Also Flagyl has never made me herx, just feel better and clear up my bowels.

Molybdenum I have tested low for in the past. And molybdenum and and pantatheine along with Zinc I believe convert aldehyde into acetic acid and then into coenzyme A.

Im thinking now that all of the people that have herxed on Flagyl probablly just had aldehyde buid up? If there was an aldehyde build up in my system and I took Flagyl and didnt feel worse, then does that mean that I dont have aldehydes that can be detoxed better>?

Please one of the smart ones here help me understand.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to fall into the "smart ones" category, LOL, but I've had the same response as you to Flagyl and here's what I think:

I was put on flagyl and zith and then flagyl and mino several times. Flagyl always made me feel better - more energy, more clarity, etc. Never herxed from it.

I thought it was so odd, because most people HATE it! Even more importantly when I quit taking flagyl within a week or two I would backslide in a major way.

Then I found out I had babesia. My doctor has told me since that Flagyl has some effect against babs - not enough to kill it off but enough to at least weaken it.

Now after treating babs with an anti-malarial I don't need flagyl and haven't taken it in a while - so I think he was right.

As far as the molly and the panta and the aldehyde...I have no idea! Whatever that's about you may be right!!

Lauren

What is MCS? And what do you believe causes aldehyde build up?

I herxed like mad while on Flagyl (besides the awful Flagyl side effects of nightmares, severe nausea and vomiting).

I've also been treated for Babesia in the past so maybe it was a babs herx and not a Lyme one.

Lauren that makes perfect sense. Good for you to find that out.

Allie, MCS stands for multiple chemical sensitivity. I never had it early in my disease. I lived sick for about 10 years without having it. Then without warning my LLMD putting me on Biaxin gave it to me, then it went away, then I was exposed to PVC in a sauna, then it went a way, then I was exposed to steamig citronella oil. It never went away after that.

The inside of my nose feels raw it hurts, my throat hurts, ears feel like there is fluid in them. Im sensitive to perfumes, colognes, cleaning products, PVC and MOLD and especially memory foam.

I cant even eat sugar or anything with yeast. It knocks me out with burning pains in my feet.

The whole sinus thing is that worts though. Also I have vertigo 24/7 hours a day. If you care you could read some of my first posts.

Thats where I got my name from and everything indeed has stuck and has not gotten better.

Aldehydes are toxins that can make MCS worse or even set it off.

Im trying to see what set this off and if I can reverse it!!!!!!!!!!

Theres gotto be a way. Ive been trying for 5 years now and it has been expensive. Its very depressing to live this way.

My husband didn't herx on Flagyl either just got better and better. I, too, think it was working on the Babesia.

This is all very interesting. I hope that some doctor or institution is making a study out of all of this!
