IMO the best way is with a urine challenge. You get an IV with a DMPS push and then collect urine for 24 hours and have it tested at Dr's Data.
I am very blessed as my Dr. does chelation therapy right in his office.

To Mojo's comment I want to add that heavy metal tests are as unreliable and inconclusive as Lyme tests. If for a variety of reasons the body is unable to release the metals, they often do not show up in Urine, with or without challenge.
If you have amalgam fillings and your mother had amalgam fillings and nursed you, it is safe to assume that you are heavy metal toxic, some less than others, some more. It depends on many other factors.
One of the better ways to test for heavy metals and a more reliabile on is to do a hair analysis. If you do a search here, I have posted how to do that. A knowledgable doctor can interpret a hair test. If you have amalgam fillings and the hair test shows no mercury, you can assume that your body is not letting go of it and that you are storing it elsewhere.
Also a way of finding out is through energetic testing by someone who does it well. If you have a biotensor and learn how to use it and have a bit of heavy metal samples (old thermometer with mercury, etc.) you can easily test yourself.
As long as you have neurological as well as other symptoms (pain), assume that you are also heavy metal toxic. I have never met a person with Lyme who was not also heavy metal toxic. I have met hundreds over the years.
If you do a search here, you will find many posts on the subject. If heavy metal toxic, it is very difficulty to get rid of bacterial and viral infections. They love the terrain.
Hope this helps -
Take care.

Oh, this is out of synch - as GiGi posted as I was typing.

From an earlier post above, the link to Doctor's Data Lab is:
they will send your doctor a test kit when their office requests one.
It's really best to have a doctor who know about this work with you.
I've not been able to get the IV push if DMPS but I have had a couple tests challenged with oral DMSA and it clearly showed elevated levels.
Urine tests cannot show all that might be stored in bones, but it can give an indication.
You can read more at the link above.
Ask your local support group leader who, in your area, addresses this. Also ask your LLMD. Most LLMDs are quite familiar with this adjunct problem for many lyme patients.
you can also search for Klinghardt's protocol. He's done a great deal of research in heavy metal detox.

So Blood Work alone will not show Heavy Metal Toxins ?
Anyone know How to Detox from the Metals ?
Thank you.

DMSA, Zeolites, Chlorella, Cilantro, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and of course the all powerful Bionic 880 can do it all (mostly).

My initial blood work showed no metal issues. Then when I went to my current Lyme Dr. he did a hair test, I removed my amalagams and then we did the urine challenge, IV chelation (DMPS) for a few months (every other week) and then another urine challenge.
A year later we retested (urine challenge) as recommended at that time at the ILAD's conference and did more IV's with DMPS followed by another urine challenge.

Eric, read everything you can on this subject. You will get a hundred different answers. Yes, the Bionic clearing out other infections, will then open the flood gates for the metals to come out.
There is one exception: If you are allergic to any of the metals which most people are, the body will not release it, and it takes a different approach which I have been posting about. www.allergie-immune.de (click on English section) or go to www.melisa.org and learn more there.
Most people are misinformed about the metal problems.
Shoemaker's test does not show metals, but just neurotoxins in general. We all have them.
If you still have amalgam fillings and crowns with amalgam under it in your mouth, the approach to detox heavy metals is different. You cannot detox mercury totally or partially, with the amalgams still in your mouth.
Please google your questions - Read www.neuraltherapy.com/ articles - that's where I learned all I know regarding heavy metals. You need a doctor who knows and understands that mercury is a horrible neurotoxin! If he/she doesn't, I would look for someone who does.
It is your life and the heavy metals are at the very base of many major problems. Someday even the dentists will figure that out.
Take care.

Blood testing only shows acute, severe poisoning, not long-term chronic exposure that most of us are looking for. If a doctor tries to do a blood test for chronic metals, I would personally run.
Hair tests or urine provocation tests can be a potential source of information. A provoking agent is used and then urine is collected for 6 or 24 hours afterwards.
The other test I have been using is the Urinary Porphyrins from labbio.net. MetaMetrix does this test now in the US but I have heard some suggest the Paris lab at labbio.net may be better. The challenge is getting your urine to Paris and it generally costs as much as the test itself.
Then there are a host of energetic testing options such as ART, EDS, EAV, etc.
I think that almost all, if not all, of us with chronic Lyme disease have issues with metals as well. If you look at the teachings of Dr. K for example, infections don't live in a body that is not toxic with metals and a host of other poisons.

I should add that I agree with what GiGi mentions as well about allergies to metals and am also starting the Allergie-Immun drops in the next week or so aside the photons.

I have done the testing.. And though I can not remember the lab but can pull it out and take a look.
I did some chelation IVs for months. I know I had a strange reading of Chromium that was off the page and so high that they could not tell how high it was...
I am not feeling it has played a role...in how I feel but can not prove that...
