I know, for example, my LLMD says Minocin must be used instead of minocycline whenever possible. And now I've also heard brand Zith and Flagyl whenever possible, on this board.

What has anyone heard about Rocephin--is the generic ok or not?

I see no reason why someone needs a brand name when generics exist except if they are allergic to fillers. Way too much money to spend unnecessarily. That's why health care costs so much (among many other reasons).

CD57 - I used generic clindamycin and then switched over to branded and it was HELL and Dr H says he see's that so much that the generic can be 1/2 strength of Branded so I had to literally 1/2 the dosage.

I now remain on branded everything.

I took 1 dose of generic rocephin and I was in ER it changed my clotting factors so badly they could not stop the bleeding, it was literally pouring out of my PICC - I will never ever take a generic IV after that scary episode, I am therefore on Rocephin by Roche.

As Rianna pointed out, generics can vary in quantity of the active ingredient. You might be getting more or less of it.

Most LLMDs these days are using Ceftriaxone, isn't that the generic for Rocephin? My daughter has tried both (Brand name when the insurance paid, Ceftriaxone when we self paid w/ LLMD). The generic was actually better tolerated and more effective, in our experience.

Yes Ceftriaxone is generic Rocephin. Personally the generic nearly killed me i was in hospital for days for them to sort out my clotting factors in 2007.

Here in Europe (spain) the branded is only 14 Euro's which includes the water for mixing etc so I would never take a generic again and for some reason nearly all oral AB's in Spain are branded and very cheap literallly a few euro's for a full months supply - unsure why they just are.

Flexeril

The difference between generic and Flexeril is night and day. Didn't realize it until the first time my LLMD called it in for me.

This is sort of scary. How can there be so much difference in strength and price with this stuff???
Now I don't want to get generic anything ever again!
