I need some advice or at least someone to tell me this is normal or they've experienced it. I'm at my whits end.

My LLMD ordered a PICC and IV Rocephin two weeks ago. My home infusion company has not been helpful at all, so I have done all the research and set up an appointment to have the PICC done at a local hospital.

It was supposed to be at noon today, but the hospital called only hours before to request blookwork that they never ever indicated they would need ahead of time.

Then, we had it rushed stat and got it in on time, but they cancelled my appointment anyway because 'they don't have time'.

On top of that, they are now telling me it will be $2000 instead of the $800 they quoted me on Monday.

My LLMD is out of town and not affilitated with any hospital at all, so their hands are tied. They were counting on the home infusion company to arrange all this.

My contact at the home infusion company never returns my calls or answers the phone. She also keeps telling me she is waiting on insurance approval, and I've told her at least 10 times that we will self-pay.

What should I do? The hospital will get me in tomorrow, but this costs 2x what they originally told me!

I feel so stuck... no one cares... not even the home infusion company that was supposed to facilitate all of this!

There should be several infusion companies by looking at where you live. A picc usually lasts 3.5-5 months before it goes bad, just so you know

Thanks St John and Astria,
I found another hospital to do it for me tomorrow for a very reasonable price. Crazy day but I'm learning a lot about which questions to ask and that I really cannot trust anyone else to care as much as I do!

My LLMD is 3 hours away from where I live, but I have one of the best hospitals for radiology in my city. And since radiology places the PICC line (at least at every place I've been able to find here) I thought they would be the best choice.

Anyway, found a much more organized facility so I'll get the PICC in the morning!

Thanks for the responses. It helps just to vent or hear other's experiences. I've calmed down a lot [Smile]
