After about 10 minutes in an epsom salt bath (2 cups in very hot water), my heart starts to race and I get very uncomfortable. When I get out, I'm light headed for about 30 seconds.
Is this from the epsom salt, or the very hot water, or both?
Would this happen to someone who doesn't have Lyme?

I can't say if this would happen to someone without lyme, since I never took Epsom Salt baths until after I was sick.
I do know that I have definitley had the symptoms you are discussing to the point that I'd get out when starting to feel the black out stage and often wouldn't make it all the way back to bed before being on the ground.
One thing I found out I was doing wrong in my particular case is that I wasn't drinking enough water. So now I have a bottle of eletrolyte water in with me that I continue to drink.
You also may find you can't make the water quite as hot but it sadly takes a lot of experimenting. Also, what you can tolerate one day may be totally different the next. Good luck.

I recently did one with epsom salts and baking soda and ended up in MUCH more pain than when I went in. I am having terrible H2O problems in lower legs, with weakness, cramping, and little pea sized nodules just above the ankles.
Before the bath the pain was easing a bit. But after? -- it was like ten times worse. I had to severly drug myself up to get through the night.
Some have suggested a detox reaction, others have said a herx, but I have no idea what causes things to happen.

My detox baths are the best pain relief I get. Granted it only last 2-3 hours but it's aaahhhh.
Now I remember 5-6 yrs ago they were tough on me. They seemed to zap my energy (what little I had)and make me lightheaded, but I don't recall any heart palps.
I don't know if it was the heat or epsom salt. My body just learned to detox. My body didn't know how early on.
But others are right about WATER. Key is drinking prior and after. Now if you are not a daily every day water drinker to begin with, your body is already in dehydration, so maybe these baths are making it even tougher.
I do try to stay active after a bath also to keep my body detoxing. I do not apply lotion to clog pores after either.
That's where the baking soda comes into play. Baking soda makes the skin so smooth, even during these dry winter months.

Janice - I used to get the exact SAME thing - I think it's due to both. We don't do well in hot water-vasodilation or vasoconstriction I don't remember.
Also our internal "thermostats" are so screwed up they send an immediate msg to our brains/heart and next thing you know we're dizzy, fainty, etc.
I quit the epsom salt thing until I"m a bit better. Now nice warm showers are enough for me. Oh yes, epsom salts also made me feel drained/exhausted though I'm sure they detox you too well!!
