I've been on IV Rocephin 2g/day since January 30. We're paying $750/week for an infusion company to send all supplies and the Rocephin pre-mixed. My husband checked with insurance today and we can get Rocephin (unmixed) for quite a bit cheaper.
How do we get this mixed? I'm sure we can't do this at home, so what kind of facility would do this for us if we supply the Rocephin?
Or, if anyone knows of extremely cheap Rocephin sources that are premixed, please pm me.
Thank you!

I'm not sure, but I think unmixed Rocephin is a bag of saline, with the powdered Rocephin attached to the saline bag a little bottle. You break a seal, squeeze a little saline into the Rocephin, swish it around, then squeeze it back into the bag with the rest of saline. Takes 1 minute...a no brainer. At least, that is how my Rocephin comes. I take another medicine that is already mixed, but if that's the only difference, it would be well worth it so save some money.

The generic ceftriaxone in the vial probably is about half the cost of the total therapy if you move to self-pay. Infuserve America was selling 2g ceftriaxone in the vial for $12.50 a few months ago.
Mixing it is really easy - you need the vial, the vial transfer pin and a minibag of IV fluid (0.9% NaCl or 5% dextrose - never Ringers or other calcium solutions). The minibag has two ports - one for the transfer pin and one for the admin line pin (the admin line connects to your PICC). You push the pin into the vial, and the other end into the minibag. Break the seal inside the pin, push some fluid into the vial, mix it up for about 60 sec, and push it back into the IV bag. Like garunner said, no brainer really.
$750/week is really steep - if you can get local medical supplies you can probably treat for less than $600/month if you need minimal supplies (ie. one dressing a week, no extensions, pick up flushes locally to save on shipping, etc).
