Dear randibear, I would trust Dr. Crook's findings. To this day, he is still the most commonly referred to on yeast. I have systemic yeast, and it is extremely difficult to shake. I cannot go low-carb due to low blood sugar. I have been considering doing the SCD.

Hmmmm. My LLMD gives VFend or diflucan for systemic yeast,
And nystatin for yeast in the lower GI.
Go figure.
If you are taking nystatin and it isn't hitting all the yeast....
Then maybe consider something else.

Forgot to add that when my son was an infant and breast feeding,
He often got thrush (congenital Lyme issue I know now),
But would pass it to me via my milk ducts.
No fun.
OB gave me nystatin swish to put in his mouth and on my breast.
Messy, sticky and didn't work.
Then we did diflucan and presto!
It passed right through my breast milk and he and I both got relief.
So, I would venture as my son and I did this about every
Ten to fourteen days, that diflucan goes to more places
And can be used to treat other issues besides vaginal yeast.
BTW, I've never had that issue with Lyme.
Just the thrush on the tongue issue.
I only take nystatin for two weeks every sixty days
When I take a break from my diflucan protocol.
Hugs,
Geneal
Just my experience though.

nystatin is not strong enough to kill systemic yeast. diflucan or vfend is necessary and you must be off systemic abx to cure it. you can't cure systemic yeast if you are on abx. the abx are too strong and kill normal flora that protects you from yeast. also with systemic yeast comes systemic viruses so both must be treated to prevent outbreak. acyclovir is generic and cheap. liver functions are necessary for vfend and acyclovir once a month. you can not take enough probiotics to overcome the effects of abx and their destruction on the normal flora of the gi tract.

I didn't mean systemic yeast from Nystatin.. don't know why i said that. He says its for the intestinal yeast. But when my 15 yr old was on Nystatin and still got a vaginal yeast infection, he put her on Diflucan. I prefer Diflucan.

Dear stymielymie, I know what you said may be why I cannot get rid of the yeast. I tolerate few drugs, so I prefer herbals. I was on anywhere from 2-4 courses of abx per year from birth to my late teens for Bronchitis. I also had to do the Helidac Therapy (Amoxy, Pink Bismuth, and Flagyl 3 times daily, plus Prevacid) for four times longer than the average person. No wonder every little thing irritates it.
You have to build the good bacteria up again. Repairing the damage done to your ecosystem is difficult when you have done abx like I have. Someone recommended VSL#3, but I cannot afford it right now. I am currently taking Accu-Flora and can tell a difference if I am even a slightest bit late with it. Vinegar is brutal on my stomach, so it has to be almost completely avoided.
