Hi all, My twin boys are now on rifampin to try to go after bart. They had night sweats from babs prior to starting the rifampin, but now it seems that the sweats are almost every night, whereas before they were about 4 to 5 times/week.
Has anyone had increased sweats from Rifampin or is this just a coincidence. We also started pulsing their artemisinin around the same time so perhaps it is more effective now than before, when they took it daily.
They are also both on Mepron and one is on azith and the other on Omnicef.

This caught my attention since I was treating Babesia when I was having horrid sweats. To the degree that I would totally soak a bed a couple times a night and need to keep changing my nightgown.
While on IV Zith, Mepron and art, it did seem to settle down.
About a month ago, my doctor put me on IV Rifampin and for some reason, just this last week, the sweats are back.
So now I wonder if this is caused from the Rifampin pulling out something or if I am having babs trouble again.
Hopefully we can all get to the bottom of it since it's really miserable.
Make sure you let us know if you find out if Rifampin can do this. Thanks.

I do not get the sweats with Rifampin tx but do get hot in the a.m. from it.
Just a thought but since the Rifampin treats Bart. The Babs maybe flaring now.

cottonbrain and Amanda - do you have babesia as well? If not, then I would guess the sweats are a herx from bartonella.
Thanks so much for your input. This is important info to help determine if the babesia is gone in my children. Most of their babs symptoms are gone EXCEPT the sweats. Perhaps the sweats are from bart?!!
