My dr prescibed me elavil 10mg for the nerve pain I've been having. Has anyone else taken this? I'm nervous to take it as I am extremely sensitive to meds espeically antidepressnents. Anyone have any suggestions on this drug or personal experiences?

About 20 years ago I took Elavil for breast pain. Neither I nor my doctors knew at the time that it was being caused by an inflamed lymph node in my breast.
I now realize it was probably a symptom of Lyme as my LLMD told me that.
So, maybe for that reason the Elavil did not work for me. I took it for several months.
The only side effect I had was a serious craving for sugar. It was beyond anything imaginable. I am not normally a person who care much for sweets so that was a strange situation for me.

i wouldn't want to give my elavil, in fact, i'd give up biaxin before i'd let them take my elavil.
it's the only thing that helps me sleep. can't take ambien or lunesta as i get giant migraines.
but it does cause sugar cravings and weight gain so you have to watch it.

I took it many years ago for severe headaches - I am very sensitive to meds and tolerated it fine. It's a very old drug with many patient years of use. One thing I did find was that every time I came off it I had extremely vivid dreams for 3 or 4 nights which were a little unsettling.

My doc prescribed Lyrica for nerve pain. I tried Elavil but didn't like the draggy feeling it gave me.
Believe it or not, what helped my nerve pain was antibiotics.
After treatment for about 6 months the stabbing nerve pain I had in my hands diminished.
So currently I'm not on anything for nerve pain because mine's about gone.
Good luck in finding what works for you!
