I was doing about 80-85% last March on tetracycline, then switched over to Flagyl in April for about 2 months and worked up to 1/4 pill Flagyl every other day. The past ten days I had dropped the Flagyl and started taking malerone 1 pill a day.

I relapsed with burning skin, fatigue, and flulike malaise.

Is this a relapse brought on by an aggravation of babesia? A virus? or a Lyme relapse? I've being treating to tolerance (history of 200 mg Doxy BID, tetracycline, and Ceftin.) I have difficuly ding most meds including levaquin and zith.

It feels like a Lyme relapse, but did the malerone bring it on, or just not that strong a dose of Flagyl for the past couple months?

Feeling poorly,
CherylSue

This sounds to me like the Malarone is bringing out the Babesia. I test positive to Babesia Duncani but didn't have the air hunger, fatigue or sweats (I have had burning throughout my entire body nonstop for five years since the bite).

I'm now on Malarone and it has caused profound fatigue, headaches, crying, air hunger, etc. It is bringing out my dormant Babesia symptoms.

If you're not currently treating the Lyme as well as the babesia, it could be the Lyme coming back ... or could be a babs herx.

Sounds like a babesia herx to me. One pill a day usually won't do much though.

I did notice extra sweating at night while on the malerone, or it may be that our weather here went from cool to very hot.

I don't have the headaches associated with babesia, and my LLMD doesn't think I have it. However, my illness began suddenly with 103 fevers and drenching sweats. Profound fatigue had me in its clutches for over a year, but I eventually recovered on my own and stayed in remission for 3 years. It came back again for a year, and went into remission.

Now, I'm stuggling with the waxing/waning of the disease even under the care of an LLMD.

I suspect it is the Lyme resurfacing. This year Malerone was pretty easy for me to take compared to last year. I was working my way up to two pills.

It was overexertion and excitement (some good things, too) that overtook me. When I feel better I tend to want to see how far I can do the things I enjoy. Sometimes I get away with it. Sometimes, as in this case, NOT.

Jill, is burning a sign of babesia? I have that in my upper torso.

Six..., do you have a normal life now where you can travel and do things without having to worry about overdoing it? I'd like to get to that point!

Thanks for your replies.

Lymetoo,

Did you take malerone? How much and for how long? Did it help?

Thanks.
