Are the symptoms different? Does one have headaches (Duncani) and Microti not? I think I read that here somewhere.

I think I may have babesia, but my LLMD thinks not because I don't get headaches.

Is it possible to have babesia without headaches? Some here on the board have said yes.

Just wondering.

Microti is likely much easier to treat.

Duncani sounds like a death sentance based on others' opinions here.

I believe that I had both. I think about 4 months (total) of Mepron+Zith took care of microti, when I had symptom flares again microti AB didn't show positive.

I had testing done for duncani & microti done at a later date, when symtoms were flaring again & duncani was positive, but not microti.

I did a real aggressive Babs Tx about 5 months ago & hopefully I've finally beaten it. Babs can go latent & recrudesce so I'm not sure when I'll be certain it's gone but it doesn't seem to be bothering me right now.

I DID have headaches so I don't know what to tell you about that.

I know that there are a lot of strains & not enough can be determined by the available testing. Perhaps there may be strains, other than microti/duncani that don't cause headaches.

What other symptoms do you have that are making you think Babesia?

I came down with my initial illness in 2000. I was hospitalized with prolonged 103 fevers (10 days) drenching sweats like I never had in my life, horrible malaise and aches. It left me like a zombie with a fried brain. I couldn't drive, watch TV or read.

I recovered in a year and enjoyed 3 years remission.

It came back in fury again with high fevers and subsided in a year with an 11 month remission ensuing.

It came back again in 2006 with severe debilitation and I was on a 2 year disablity.

I began treatment in 2007 for Lyme Disease. I've only been treated for Lyme as my body is very sensitive to abx.

I was able to return to work in Aug. 08 functioning at 75% and working my way up to 85% on good days.

I relapsed again last week. I was on Flagyl since April 1/4 pill every other day. I started Malerone two weeks ago, 1 a day. I've been feeling the relapse coming on for over a month now.

Prior to the Flagyl, I was on tetracycline, ceftin, doxycycline 200 BID, nystatin, probiotics, ProBoost & methylcolamin B12 shots. I can't tolerate zith. Makes me despondent and very sick.

I was wondering if babesia is preventing my recovery. I started Augmentin today per my LLMD's instructions. I'm thinking somewhere down the line I'd like to add in malerone again to cover all bases.

Struggling still,
CherylSue

Scott,

I have microti and have been on aggressive treatment for over a year now (1 TBSP Mepron twice daily, Azithromycin twice daily, then Roxithromycin twice daily, artemesinin 200mg twice daily, primaquine once daily) plus other herbs (enula for a while, now on Boneset and GSE twice daily) and still have it.

What did you take? I think we may have the same LLMD, so I can't imagine that your treatment was much different from mine.

I will say the GSE is really knocking me out right now. I don't know if it's hitting the Babs or the Bb, but whatever it is, it's really getting something.

Just wanted to add that I'm also on 600mg/day doxy for the Bb.

I have high titers for Duncani, negative for Microti so far (five years into treatment for Lyme, Bart, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma).

I didn't have headaches until taking Malarone and now have mild ones. I never had any Babs symptoms until Alinia and that brought on air hunger.

I was bitten in California so it makes sense I have Duncani.

Don't the strains all cross-react on the tests, so who really knows?
