Anybody have success using only herbs, rife, or other alternatives to abx?

Yes, absolutely. In fact, I contend that if some of these are not incorporated, it is difficult for one to recover. Detox is a key element of recovery and that cannot be done with antibiotics.

I used antibiotics but have been off of them now for 9 months and using only natural and integrative therapies.

Scott,
How long were you on abx, and could you have had success with natural remedies without having been on the abx?

(How does one obtain your email?)

3 years on antibiotics total. I don't know whether or not I could have gotten to where I am today without them since I did not travel that path. At the time, I was in bad shape and they likely were a part of my progress, but far from the total reason I am making good progress today in my opinion.

If I was doing marginally well when my journey began, I would likely have chosen to try the Cowden protocol, but antibiotics have a place.

I was on antibiotics for 4 yrs including 6 mos IV Rocephin. I probably needed the antibiotics because I was so deathly ill. What turned the corner for me was the antiparasitic protocols I have done.

I truly believe that Lyme disease has a MAJOR parasite/worm component. I am 95% better after incorporating the herbs and salt/c into my daily protocols.

I began with almost only alternative. The only antibiotic I took was a very low dose minocycline. 300mg weekly.

I got remarkably better but not well and kept having setbacks.

Detox was vitally important and continues to be so.

But I also have high titers of Babesia ducani and Mycoplasma P and Chlamydia P, all of which were causing me problems. Also, I had H. Pylori. That one was easy to eradicate, but the others are not so easy.

We have been working on that for 2 yrs this month. We have been using some antibiotics, antiprotozoals and many herbs, colloidal silver, glutathione, etc.

I am fully functional and hope to eventually be in full remission.

Alternative alone was not able to clear the bugs. Heck, Alternative and Allopathic together are having trouble doing this.

Agree with the last comment. At present, I don't think we ever "clear" these bugs. We "manage" them.

Thanks all,
This is very good information for me and my fam (all have Lyme).

I was a little leary of using the abx only. Our doc offers both treatments.

Improved health blessings to all.

To get an indication of what works, you could read the Success Story Thread at the top of General Support.

I can't tolerate the abxs at all, and am allergic to just about everything.

So it's alternatives for me.

We are in the process of testing for porpyria and metal toxicity, then will go from there.

A new doctor we've seen for the porpyria, likes the cowden herbs.

Haven't tried them yet.

We want to address the toxins and porphyria first. I guess it makes a big difference in treatment.

We also plan to address the parasites.

Good luck.

If they are specifically targeted to infection and not just to "get the body stronger" - Getting stronger, of course, is a good goal but you simply must target the specifics.

there are many ways to do that and, whatever path you choose, it will be a complex one that requires combination, rotation and lots of patience.

Best guided by a LL MD Or LL ND (naturopathic doctor) who is an ILADS member or ILADS educated so that they have the background, even if protocol varies.

> Docs said AB was not necessary and blocked blood testing despite all kinds of problems that slowly got worse. Early 2006 I was very ill and finally got tested, 2x Bb Elisa negative and finally did a Bb Western Blot from a wellknown German lab, which was IgG and IgM positive by all accounts.
>
> AB treatment started in summer of 2006, first 6 weeks of IV Rocephin and after that about a year of oral AB including Doxy+Plaquenil and Zinnat+Flagyl. Stopped after a year because of liver problems and because hospital denied further treatment. I also had gal bladder problems (no Actigal with the rocephin ...) and developed severe gluten intolerance. My MRI shows severe MS-like brain lesions.
>
> In general, I improved pretty well on the AB but after stopping most Lyme symptoms returned within a few weeks. After one year of AB, my Western Blot was still IgG + IgM positive (although with less bands), spirochetes were visible in my blood and my condition was not really better than before starting the AB.
>
> Because of all the damage done by the AB I decided to try the Buhner protocol. Started that early 2008, my neuro symptoms improved within a few weeks after starting with japanese knotweed. Most other symptoms improved in the months after that with the standard protocol. Big fallback in summer 2008, in hindsight probably because of a chlorella course.
>
> From early this year I have been using Buhner herbs intermittently and with lower dosage; the last two weeks haven't used anything and feel pretty good. I still have severe skin (connective tissue) and gut problems, general fatigue problems and am seriously underweight. Not sure if those problems are caused by active infection, it looks more like 'residual damage'.
>
> too early to tell if I can do without the Buhner herbs now; unlike the AB they don't seem to cause real trouble for me, so if necessary I will take them again.
