Two weeks into LDN, the not being able to sleep started. Did not sleep for 3 or 4 nights. I decided not to take it last night and took it this morning.
First, if I gave it a little longer, possibly things would level out and the sleeping issue would be resolved?
Second, I have had very bad depression today, actually bad enough it is scaring me. Anyone noticed any depression if you take it during the day?
Thanks a bunch.

Hi Keltyl,
What dose did you start out on? And did you just increase it recently?
If I remember correctly, I stayed on the 2mg dose for 2-3 wks before I bumped up to the 4mg dose.
I had very vivid dreams for the first couple weeks after starting LDN. They did not wake me and they did not increase when I bumped up the dose.
I have had severe problems falling asleep and staying asleep off and on over the past year since starting Lyme treatment. When I started LDN I was NOT having problems sleeping. That only flared up over the past 2mo when I changed antibiotics(one interacts with my sleep med).
Have you started any other new meds or supplements lately? Have you been more stressed (stressing about the potential side effects even!), more active, more tired than usual? Any dietary changes? Are you experiencing a herx or flare right now that may be increasing your over all symptoms and making you feel bad in general? Any of these things could be affecting your sleep too.
I would recommend sticking with the LDN for now, give your body time to get used to it, watch out for things that may be affecting your sleep.
As for the depression, I don't recall that being a common side effect of LDN. It may be caused by your lack of sleep!
Take care:)

Thanks Sammy. I have had a sleep problem for yrs, take alot of meds at bedtime.
I'm on 2 mg LDN, no dreams but would find myself jumping out of bed alot. I do take an antidpressant and have it pretty much under control.
Just seemed weird I decided to take it in the am instead, and the depression increased as the day went on.
Thanks for your input.

To me, it would make sense that if you take LDN in the morning, you would have some depression during the day.
I would expect the depression to last anywhere from 2-6 hours, then clear up later in the day.
The reason is that LDN blocks endorphin production for a few hours....so maybe this is the time that you are depressed, since endorphins produce a "natural high"....then, after those hours are up and the LDN wears off, your body compensates by producing lots of endorphins.
I noticed when I went back on my LDN after stopping it for awhile that I was less depressed, but I was taking it before bed, so by the time I woke up, the endorphin blocking was over, and I was probably producing more endorphins.
But if you take it in the morning, you could be depressed during the day.
So I'd try taking it at night, unless it gives you insomnia....then you'd have to pick the lesser of the two evils I guess.
Hope that makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't, and I'll try to clarify.

Yes it does make sense. I had been taking it at night, but 2 wks into it, I was having a sleeping problem. That's why I decided to try taking it in the am. My LLMD said that was ok.
Unless it was just one of my bad days, it gave me very bad depression, particularly starting in the early afternoon.
Guess this whole thing is just a guessing game, and everyone is different with the way they are affected by everything.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi keltyl. I take LDN. When I first started on the 2 mg dose in the evening, I did have some trouble sleeping. It went away after a couple of weeks. Were you taking it right before you went to bed?
I am on a higher dose now and have not had any problems. I feel like it is helping.

I read somewhere to take it between (pm and 2 am, I take it at ( pm even if I'm not going to bed. My thinking there is maybe it will wear off and not wake me so early???

Keltyl, sorry about your 9 key!
Maybe try taking it right before you go to bed? That is when I take mine.
