I have chronic Lyme and Babesia which I have not been treating due to medication issues. I just got a new fresh case and the infectious disease doctor gave me a month of Amoxicillin which so far I am tolerating.(stomach issues) I have had like a flu-cold thing for the past several days. I keep waking up in the middle of the night with knives in my ears. Went to the regular PCP today and have double ear infections. I've been on Amox for 2 weeks, how could this happen? He gave me an IM shot of Rocephrin and I have to go back tomorrow and the next day for two more. I mentioned that I was afraid of a bad herx and he didn't know what I was talking about. When I started to explain I got the eye roll. If the Amoxicillin can't even handle ear infections what could it be doing for the Lyme? AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Maybe you are not on a high enough dose. I believe that the bacteria that causes ear infections is becoming resistant to Amox. Last time my daughter had a bad ear infection she was on double the dose of Amox (she is 5). I think it was 800mg 2x a day. I was so freaked out that it was too high but after speaking with the pharmacy and the doc it was right on. Good luck.

Thanks, I am actually on 875 mg 2 x a day. I just called the infectious disease dr. and she told me to stop the amox while on Rocephrin. Glad I called. The other duck didn't even mention that they don't interact well. What is the usual dose of amox for acute lyme?
