They used a C6 ELISA to screen for eligible cases? That's an ancient and terribly inaccurate testing technology. If they only took people who screened positive via this test, how do they know they aren't only getting a certain strain that is more likely to produce a positive C6 ELISA?
Besides this, the ELISA has worse odds of catching a true positive Lyme case than a coin toss.
Why wouldn't they have used Western Blot, and tested for more than one strain? This kind of screening is narrowing the field of research resources once again, and limiting the scope of what Lyme disease can be, right out of the gate.
I'm not making myself very clear this morning, but this has long been a large part of the problem with Lyme research.

I hear ya nenet it makes the whole thing somewhat pointless and a waste of time and money. I was thinking this center at Columbia had more knowledge than this.

There was a large advert in our local paper for the July 25 session. Still considering whether it would be worthwhile to go.
