Topic: Should I be concerned about Mad Cow with bovine adrenal supps?

Did your LLMD's address the risk with you? Did they say not to worry about it? Or is this actually risky?
Is there just as much risk in getting Mad Cow from a medium-rare steak (in which case I'll take my chances), as from bovine adrenal, thymus, spleen, stomach, and partoid (the ingredients in mine)?
I have heard the bovine brain is bad (which my supp does NOT have), but are those other organs bad too?
I am not very knowledgable about Mad Cow, so I don't want to be overly fearful if this supplement might actually help me. It is DSF Formula by Nutri-West.
I called the company, and they wanted me to call the regional representative, which I'll have to do tomorrow because it's later here. So I'm trying. Are there better brands?
Thank you!

I think you can only get Mad Cow from ingesting an infected cow brain. It's been awhile since I heard anything about Mad Cow so I could be mistaken.
If you chose a reputable brand I would think that it would be safe, especially if your LLMD recommended it.
Pure Encapsulations, Metagenics, and Xymogen are good brands that have adrenal support formulas. I'm currently using the Xymogen brand "Adrenal Essence".

And what about pig diseases from dessicated thyroid meds? Be nice if the risks of animal diseases were made clear in this country, and I am not talking now of meds for humans made from animal parts, but the general situation. In one eastern U.S. county, there was nearly a 20% infection rate in deer for chronic wasting disease. The authorities kept this quiet.
How can we judge risk when the authorities don't tell the truth?

I think no one knows for sure and as Lou pointed out information has been suppressed. Many alternative doctors won't use animal glandulars anymore.
I guess it's a personal risk assessment whether you you want to or not because you won't get a straight answer. I also agree with the above poster that if you decide to, to only use a first tier brand such as the ones mentioned.

Allergy Research/Nutricology Adrenal Cortex Glandulars are from organic New Zealand herd that have never had a case of Mad Cow.
I am trying them, as I shall probably have to stop hydrocortisone for my v. low cortisol because of the way it's worsening candida.

Human growth hormone has been blamed for infections. One patient was 16 upon discovery. He was from Canada. You may want to do some research.

Okay, I think I am going to order one of the Nutricology Adrenal supplements because they are Organic and Free Range, and from New Zealand.
But, there are two of them, so I dunno which to order.
My original one my LLMD wants me to take has bovine: adrenal, thymus, spleen, stomach, and partoid.
From Nutricology, one is called Adrenal Organic Glandular and just has bovine adrenal, 300 mg. The other Nutricology one is Adrenal Cortex Glandular, and it is also all from the bovine adrenal, but only contains the cortex (outer portion) of the adrenal. It is 250 mg.
But, in my LLMD one, the adrenal portion is only 25 mg, and the other ingredients bring it up to 200 mg.
So which one of the Nutricology? Thoughts?

I don't know about that. New Zealand? I believe I
would contact the companies and discuss the issue
with a rep. Who may be able to tell you the lengths
the company has gone to prevent transmission.

I think the whole thing with New Zealand is that there has never been a case of Mad Cow there. And the free-range I'm sure is a big deal, because Mad Cow supposedly develops from feeding the cows ground up cow parts...that is how I understand it.
I am much more comfortable with the Nutricology brand. I am now just more worried about which one to choose.......

You are right about the Mad Cow issue and New Zealand. Apparently, it arose from grinding up
animal parts and bones and adding it to animal feed. In other words, feeding herbivores a carnivorous diet.
From what I understand, this practice was never used in New Zealand.

If it helps, I believe that Andy Cutler [re chelation] advises the cortex one. I've a feeling Joey might use that too [check with him] and I chose it after reading several things about it.
I suppose you could start with it, give it some time and move to the other if it doesn't help,

If you want to use something specific for a specific gland, there is a company called Inno-Vita that has designed supplements that are like RNA / DNA factors that are not made from the actual animal glands.
Check out www.inno-vita.com for more info. People from other supplement companies that used RNA / DNA factors (instead of just a ground up gland told me about 5 to 7 years ago that the New Zealand cows were not reliable for natural etc. anymore. And this company had been making these for many years.
The theory is that RNA / DNA from a specific animal gland encourages the immune system to chase the slightly more foreign RNA / DNA and leaves your gland alone so it can heal and function the best it can.
