Here is my July update:

I've been on oxymatrine for 23 weeks, I'm also on acyclovir for various viruses and doxycycline for Cpn.

I had noticed in mid June some very painful foot spasms and leg cramps. These were new symptoms, and very debilitating, so they needed to be addressed. I did some research, and learned that a Magnesium (Mg) deficiency could cause such a problem. I started taking a supplement, and interestingly enough those symptoms went away (along with my restless legs and jumpy heart). Here's a couple of links:

I did not have the known laxative effect of the Mg (I was on about 500 mg), but I did begin to have the muscle relaxant effect. (Read: I felt like a rag doll). This was not desirable, as it made me feel much less energetic than before. This rag doll effect started in early July. So, I spent the first half of July tinkering with the Mg dose...trying to find a dose that kept the foot spasms and leg cramps away, but did not make me feel like a rag doll. I'm still trying to figure out that dose...it seems to be somewhere between 400-500 mg.

All this is to say that the first half of July was trying to figure out Mg issues. I had very few "5" days in the first half of the month, and that was discouraging, for I had 18 of those in June, but I was happy to be rid of some very annoying symptoms (restless legs, foot spasms and calf cramps...with a reduced jumpy heart).

The second half of July I did have lots more "5" days (17 total for the month). A "5" for me means I have enthusiasm for life and even have a bit of strength in me. I'll stand at the check out line of the store and say I'm having a great day. Am I well? No. But I'm so much better than I was that it is a great feeling.

So, all in all, July was better than June. I still continue with many symptoms, and am not well, but I feel like I am heading in a forward direction. So, that is good.

Glad I figured out the Mg issue. I was really surprised by that one.

Best to all,
Timaca

Timica,

You might also want to consider adding in some taurine and B6.

Recently read somewhere (I think it was in Better Nutrition or Energy Times but can't be sure) that taurine works in conjunction with magnesium. It is also a good supplement for the heart. Hubby takes 500 mg 3 times per day. He had an alternative doc put him on the taurine years ago.

Bea Seibert

P.S. Glad to see you are still making progress.

If you take high quality Mg, you won't have the laxative effect.

Works for me!

Thanks for keeping us posted! [Smile]
