See if you can see some parallels between the response to h1n1 as compared to h5n1. We know h5n1 never materialized as a threat.
It is interesting in one of them, the suspicion of more then 50% of folks not be available to function. Yet in the other, it states that pandemic was going to be worse then thought. Yet it never materialized.
Anyone draw any conclusion of this? I put these 3 things together and its an interesting picture.

What I conclude from this is that there is a LOT of money to be made in offering seminars on pandemic `preparedness'! Did you check out the prices for attendance on the H1N1 conference pages? Yikes.
Though the `bird flu' never materialized as a global threat (yet) and this version of the `swine flu' hasn't been near what was `predicted', there is always the chance that either of these things could happen. That's the rub.
Oversensationalizing the threat in any of these cases causes the biggest problem, in my opinion. It's the equivalent of `crying wolf'. Every time we get a false alarm, we become a little less likely to believe in the next alert. One of these days, a real, deadly pandemic will hit and nobody will be paying much attention.
That's what happened with Katrina in so many cases. A lot of people didn't evacuate because they'd heard dire warnings in past years and didn't believe THIS one was going to be that bad......
(And am I nuts or are the pictures exactly the same in both conference advertisements? I thought that was kind of tacky.)
