For those of you who supplement w/ fiber (I've been using psyllium whole husks), do you take it away from meds or does it matter?

I've been having issues w/ regularity recently but since starting fiber in the am its gotten better.

I also usually take abx and anti fungals about 1 hr apart, just wanted to see if this is too close?

I don't want the fiber to be pulling the meds right through, but I dont think it does?

Anyone know?

thanks!

I take it with my meds but I haven't a clue if I should or not.

If you usually take your meds with food then it should be OK to take fiber at the same time. It would be like eating bran flakes instead of rice puffs for breakfast.

Meds that should not be taken with food should also not be taken with fiber supplements. Synthroid is one that comes to mind, fiber reduces the absorption.

Thanks guys, I thought as much.

Ive just begun taking the meds 1st thing in the am then fiber a little later on.

I am sure as I increase the complexity of what I take it may become a little more complicated, but for now that should work.

I would think that is fine. It's not like psyllium is a "binder," that I know of at least.

My LLMD told me to take ALL my meds with food, and I think his reasoning is because he thinks I have absorption problems, so the food would actually help the absorption.

So in this case I would equate psyllium with food.

If you have anything that needs to be taken on an empty stomach, whether abx or enzymes like Wobenzym, I would not take those with your fiber supp.

Are you by chance taking the Organic India brand whole husk psyllium? I have a hard time getting that stuff down! I prefer their Tri-Active blend that is sweetened with Stevia.

What antifungals are you taking?

You are supposed to take it 2 hours away from all meds. I take my psyllium in the afternoon with a pot of herbal or green tea. I use Yerba Prima brand in capsules.

I suppose if you were taking a small amount throughout the day with meals, then it would be okay. But if you are taking a bulking-up dose, then do take it 2 hrs. from medications.
