It looks like my daughter now could be dealing

with some yeast on the back of her tongue.

Not bad...just a little bit of white coating...

Is the liquid Nystatin horrible tasting? Will

the pill form of Nystatin work for the mouth?

Do not want to use Diflucan as one of the side

effects is hair loss. What about anything else

along with Nystatin. She has always

had a hard time swallowing pills and taking medicine in liquid form but has come along

way since Lyme disease...I just think she will

gag and dry heave on this liquid form.

Thanks for any advice

Deb G

The liquid form has some sugar in it.

It is made so babies won't spit it out, as they are very prone to thrush. She won't want it over ice cream... but it should be tolerable.

I don't know about the pills working in the mouth specifically... but I do know the liquid was designed for it. She can swish and spit if she can't swallow. Not as good but will help some for the mouth.

I know my pharmacy has "flavors" they add to different meds upon request. Unfortunately, I don't like "bubble gum" flavor, so I passed on it... but she might like something they have? Just getting to pick her own flavor might encourage her to take it.

Diflucan pills are quite small if they become necessary.

Nystatin with sugar in it is ok to take when you have Lyme. Something about the yeast going after the sugar that the Nystatin is bound to and then killing it off easier. Its not a big deal to swallow it at all. The powder or liquid is probably better for oral thrush.

Our LLMD is not for 2 weeks yet..but we have a

close friend who is a doc and he said he would

prescribe her some Nystatin (liquid) on Monday..
