I'm on Factive. Have started slowly... only on day two of half a pill. I already feel something going on. I've had what feels like bone pain from it, sweats that are located, so far, only in between my thighs and upper legs and knees. Last night I felt awful. Couldn't sleep very well at all and kept waking up and had a leg ache (all over) last night as well as a minor headache (which left, but is back now). [Frown] Sound like a herx?

What I'm worried about is the tendon pain and issues Factive can cause. I've never had tendon pain and have no idea what it feels like, so don't know what to look out for. Truthfully, I have no idea where the tendons are located!

So what should I look out for? What does tendon pain feel like and where is it usually?

Thanks.

I had a lot of pain the first time I was on Factive which could have been thought of as tendon pain. It went away in a few days though and never reoccured. I attributed it to either my body adjusting to a new med or a herx.

I was on levaquin and got tendonitis. This is what happened to me. I felt fine at first but while exercising I developed some bad pains in my back and one arm. The soreness seemed to be in my muscles so my LLMD dismissed it as a herx reaction. Then as I was reaching out to pick up something, a tendon snapped in my shoulder. It felt like I was stabbed. I quit the drug and after a couple of weeks my shoulder pain and muscle pain began to improve. But I strained my arm (used it to hold myself up when I almost came off a horse) and really damaged it. I was diagnosed with tendonitis in my rotator cuff. I could not use my arm at all for about a month. Gradually it improved but it hurt intensely at night making it hard to sleep.
I cured the pain using large amounts of minerals, after 8 months of pain. I believe minerals are very important. It is believed that levaquin reduced blood flow to the tendons which is why they can be damaged. Levaquin really helped my bartonella symptoms and might have cured me if I could have continued to take it. But it is a very risky drug. I would quit using any drug like it if you get muscle pain. I could also not use any other drug after using levaquin. Now 10 months later I am using Rifampin and zithro. I have been on it for over 5 weeks but there is little improvement.

Factive has very low risks compared to other drugs in that family of causing that side effect. There are always risks, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, Metallic. I have been having weird pains that I've never had before. Feels kind of like bone pain. I've had bone pain before, but never in the areas that I've been having them now, so I'm a bit worried if it's tendon pain. And I'm only on day three of Factive, and I started out taking only half a pill even.

They say, it is advisable, to supplement with a lot of magnesium, before taking fluoroquinolones to prevent possible tendon damage.

Not during treatment though.
