Has it covered the Bicillin itself (not the administering of it) for you all? I may be switching insurance soon, and the thing I'm most worried about is my Bicillin.
I'm assuming that since you guys are taking it, bc/bs is covering it?
I've been wondering if there are any insurers I should avoid if bicillin coverage is important.

How much your co-pay currently is per shot/month?
I am indifferent to insurance coverage for injectable penicillin. Any kind (short, long and medium acting) are available online and it is dirt cheap. One of the cheapest abx out there.
The only reason bicillin is expensive in america because there is non expiring patent on it (therefore no -generics).
It is ironic that bicillin (long acting penicillin formulation) was invented in Soviet Union (not in US), yet US firm holds patent on it for over 50 years! And charges arm and a leg for it ! - Government protected monopoly at its best

Thats about 4 times more than you would pay if paid out of pocket

I have recently been dealing with this issue with BCBS.
First they denied the Bicillin. When I called to find out why, they said it is not covered under the prescription plan because it is not a self-injectable medication. They said it had to go through the medical benefits plan.
They also said I had to have an in-state doctor who is in network prescribe and inject it. I see an out-of-state doctor because "Lyme does not exist here." As a result, it is very hard to find a doctor here who is willing to prescribe it and inject it for me. I may have found one, though it is a forty minute drive one way.

Just get it like a regular Rx at the pharmacy and give yourself the shots. Why pay someone $25 a pop to do it, its easy.

WildCondor, I have BCBS and they will not pay for it unless someone from a doctor's office or outpatient clinic does the injections. Weird huh? They would save money if the person or someone at their home did the injections.
