Hello, my name is Nino and I'm a new member on Lymenet. I would like to know if anyone can refer me to a pharmaceutical company where I can purchase Mepron 750mg at a very affordable price! I've been diagnosed with LD back in early 2008 and was on a natural protocal. Thought I was getting better so I stopped all treatments since until a few months ago when I started feeling terrible again.
So now I'm seeing a new doc who wants to pursue conventional medicine which may help treat the symptoms better. Therefore, I received a prescription for Mepron. Well, as many of you all know, this is an expensive medicine!!!
I can't afford paying over $800 dollars on a month supply!!! I can barely work a full week to be able to save to purchase this on a monthly basis for that matter. Anyhow, I appreciate anyones input who has been purchasing Mepron from a reliable pharmacy. Thanks.

Bridges to Access - GSK's patient assistance program.

They can help you if you don't have insurance.

Yikes - I didn't know they had income guidelines.

I thought it was for anyone without insurance.

No...income is a separate variable from insurance I believe. One has to call the company for more details probably.

If income was not a variable it would be great, but that's not the case.... I had to pay $1800/month for Mepron.

People with a half decent income, but are not wealthy, who have insurance but no prescription plan are just out of luck.

Nino - I read somewhere on this board about a month / 6 wks ago that the patent for Mepron expires in 2010. I don't remember anymore than that.

If someone has details, please share. A generic to substantially reduce the price for us all!

http://drugtopics.modernmedicine.com/drugtopics/Modern+Medicine+Now/Patents-soon-to-expire-for-many-brand-name-drugs/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/617015?contextCategoryId=47448&r ef=25

Looks like they are saying 2009...

"Patents have already expired or are soon to expire in 2009 for several brand-name drugs. From GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the blockbuster Valtrex (valacyclovir hydrochloride) for the treatment of genital herpes and cold sores goes off patent this year. Teva has received tentative approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin marketing its generic version in December.1 Also going off patent is Mepron (atovaquone), GSK's antiprotozoal used for the treatment of pneumonia in patients with compromised immune systems. Mepron is also used to treat Lyme disease. "

Ceck out the last line. Not entirely accurate, but amazing it is there.

It'll take 6+ months to see any savings even after patent expiration. Furthermore, I doubt this drug is used much so little incentive for generic manufacturers to focus on it. Outside of LLMDs, do regular docs care about Mepron? My pharmacist friend worked in the industry 10+ years and NEVER heard of Mepron. [Smile]
