Mike is getting the kids ready for their bath, and I hear, "That's not a tick bite, is it?" Just what a Lyme-diseased mother DOESN"T want to hear.

Wesley has a huge red welt with a black center on the back of his thigh, not quite dime-sized.

Took pictures of it in case we need to see the doctor.

Though you wouldn't think ticks would be out in January as cold as it's been here....

It's something the IDSA could never wrap their heads around but ticks are out in all seasons, all temperatures . . . rain or shine . . . ice or snow.

I've seen photos that nature photographers have taken of ticks walking on frozen snow. Yep.

Others say they can come out after forest fires. Amazing.

Eagle eyes are good to have all year long.

I am a bit confused when you say "in case you need to see the doctor" ---

especially if there is a black dot in the center of a rash, can you get a good magnifying glass and check? If you don't have one, the doctor's office can look at it with magnification.

Well, seems it was a false alarm, praise God.

The black dot in the center was a fuzz from off his pants, and after a bath, it looks like it's a spot of eczema that he's been scratching.

Still planning to keep an eye on it, but I'm sure it's not a tick bite.

As for the ticks, a friend who has a taxidermist friend said he put a live tick in a plastic container and stuck it in the freezer for a month.

When he got it out, the tick was still alive and crawling around.

Wonder if they'd live on Mars?

Some ticks will chew their way out of a plastic bag.

They should always be put in a strong glass or heavy thick plastic with a screw or latch top, taped over . . . and shipped for testing that way, too.

Well, had Wesley to the doctor today for the welt.

The doctor took one look at it and said it looks like ringworm, so she prescribed an antifungal cream.

I guess that's better than Lyme. [Razz]
