What is the difference between Ketek and Biaxin? They are the same drug class. He said (he is well known LLMd) Ketek is an awesome lyme killer, it is not a cyst buster as some think. Also seems from what I've read a liver killer as well.
I have had much success on Biaxin, my LLMd wants me on Ketek w/Flagyl. (Flagyl too? Help! )
I would love to hear from people who have tried both, Ketek and Biaxin...what was the difference when you did Biaxin compared to Ketek? Did you notice more improvement on Ketek?

I have done both these drugs. For me Both were quite potent and hard to tolerate. I would say I made more progress on ketek though and I love flagyl but only if it is IV.
Just for me IV is so much easier to tolerate by far.
I can see why they would want you on both. Ketek though has a black box warning and you should be aware of that.. too.

i found biaxin a breeze but was recently changed
to flagyl/mino combo and after 5th gruelling day
I phoned my LD and told him I can't do this.
Have never felt this bad in all my trtmnt. Will
hear from him tomorrow. Don't know which it is
but I think flagyl is the culprit. Nausea 24/7
vertigo, numbness, anxiety!!!!!!!! feel like I'm
going insane. At the point of stopping all
treatment and rifing along w/good supps.

Springshowers - thank you. I will be doing oral Flagyl. I wonder why IV Flagyl is easier? Yes thank you, I am aware of the black box warning (Cipro/quinolones have these FDA warnings too, all these abx can be scary) and not to forget the lawsuits against this drug. I googled it and wow! I think I am going to push Biaxin in place of it.
Jola - Biaxin was easy as well for me the first time I did it for 9 months. I had to do it a second time a year later and it was totally different experience, the herx was insane, but when it was over it has worked very well. Try starting one drug at a time when a combo is rx'd. I do this, so I know what is causing what. Mino is known for causing vertigo. But Flagyl can cause these things as well. My son did Flagyl and had all you described, but when he was done with it, he felt MUCH better. It truly was scary and I almost took him to the hospital a few times when he was on Flagyl, but he detoxed per his LLMd using Activated Charcoal and made it through. Now that he is well (took 2 years through all meds) he is glad he did Flagyl early and is really pushing that I just do it because I will be happy when its over. However, when it becomes intolerable (as it has many times for me on abx) I have had to cut back or switch too. I have a friend who does Flagyl only one day per month and she said it sends her reeling in pain for 2 weeks. I am fairly use to pain though. I hope you find something that works and is tolerable for you.
