Since it needs to be taken on an empty stomach once a day and another abx twice a day, how do you work this in?
Thank you!

My kids take rifampin twice a day. Once as soon as they wake up about an hour before breakfast and then about 4 pm, an hour before dinner. They take their other meds with dinner.

I have to start rifampin soon and I was wondering about this too. I took Doxy for a while and you're supposed to take that on an empty stomach too. I didn't though because I'd get a serious 2 hour stomach ache. Awful.
So do people get the same kind of stomach upset on rifampin?
And is the empty stomach rule bendable as it seems to be with doxy?

Full dose at bedtime. I started out 300mg first in am and second at bedtime for 2 weeks. I found for me that I'm less herxy feeling with taking it all at bedtime.

I was thinking about this post & other similar questions by others.
I've got a novel idea. How about doing what/how your LLMD prescribed?
Any problems, why not discuss with your LLMD how his/her instructions are affecting you?
Then they'll know how patients are reacting to the drugs.

dmc, IMO I've never found a doctor that was in charge of my health and well being. In fact even my LLMD encouraged his patients to try different things to feel better.
Even when his rx read take 3 a day, he would stress....do not start rx this way, start slowly, do not take this dosage if it's too much for you.
He was smart enough to know he wasn't in charge of my health and well being. He needed his patients to take charge.
I love a doctor that allows me to think for myself. I love a doctor that knows he just my tool and guide and isn't my god.

What I meant is to TRY it the way the llmd rxd the med. Then if a problem the MD will know how your particular body's reation is to BENEFIT his other patients.
Too many posting rely on lay people's advise BERFORE EVEN trying it as prescribed.
Quote fromn Lymetoo even points out what I'm talking about

I understand dmc. Too many ill people trust and do exactly as instructed by their doctors and sometimes you have to be able to make decisions that are in your best interest.
I just firmly believe one needs to be pro-active in their own health and well being. Example: those that think all they need is an abx and everything will be fine. Abx long term and no other treatment protocols is a plan to fail, IMO.
Much bigger picture involved than just doing what your doc or LLMD suggest.

You would understand why people are asking these questions if you saw the prescription label. It simply states, "take on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 -3 hours after eating." That leaves a lot up for patient discretion. It's difficult to time this med around your life and so it makes sense to ask what other people are doing. I assume you've never taken Rifampin due to your response.

The reason I asked this question is because I was told to take rifampin 3 times a day. How is that even remotely possible when you need to take it on an empty stomach, fit supplements in, probiotics in twice a day, etc.
I need to make things as simple as possible right now.
