Im so confused. My Dr has put me on Nystatin for a yeast infection but can/should I still take probiotics while taking the nystatin? or wait until I finish the nystatin?
I have been on the nystatin since Saturday and I am not ANY better. I have not been taking any probiotics.
He also told me I could/should take both kinds of probiotics at the same time...
Florastor---Saccharomyces boulardii 250mg &
Culturelle--Lactobacillus GG 10 billion cells
It's just so confusing to me.
Thanks,
Karen (:

I take my nystatin after meals, and right before bed, my probiotics..I think nystatin will make the florastor ineffective, but the culturelle is ok. (Florastor is a type of yeast.)

I learned from this forum that antifungals will destroy the beneficial yeast in the Florastor.

Yes, you cannot take Nystain with Florastor it will just kill it right off. It does not matter if you space them out, it will kill it. Wait until your yeast infection is gone before you start back up on the Florastor. Other probiotics are ok to take with Nystatin and it is not absorbed into the blood.
If you are not any better taking Nystatin you probably need a real antifungal like Diflucan that is absorbed into the blood. Nystatin does not treat vaginal yeast if taken orally, atleast not well. Creams are better, as is Diflucan.
