I took a 10 day course of flagyl for suspected c. diff (no test). Been off it for a week, diarrhea is gone, but nausea and lack of appetite is still with me. Also have extremely sour taste in my mouth.

My anxiety is thru the roof. Started on cymbalta and have xanax to sleep.( I'm not on any lyme treatment right now) Don't feel like doing anything but staying in bed and trying to calm the anxiety. Anyone have an educated guess if I'm dealing with c. diff?

You have to get tested for it 3 times with a diarrhea sample while off Flagyl.

10 days is not enough c.diff treatment! It is usually 4-6 weeks minimum.

Florastor is vital to recovery.

Thanks WC. Is this nausea and unable to eat normal with c. diff? I will try to get in and get tested.

Flagyl was horrible. I can still taste it after a week. I know vancomycin(sp) is very expensive, but should I do that next?

I dont have Florastor available here but I'm taking s. boulardii from our health food store. I will order the florastor though. How much a day?

I'm sorry I know I'm asking questions you've already answered. Thanks so much

It's okay [Smile]

Usually with active c.diff it's 2-4 caps/day of Florastor.

Vancomycin is much easier to take for c.diff than FLagyl is, but keep in mind that Vanco orally will not treat Lyme, whereas Flagyl will.

Only oral meds work for c.diff, IV does not.

Nausea is very common with c.diff.

Hope that helps [Smile]

It's not likely that you still have C. diff if you don't have diarrhea. If you want to know for sure, take a stool sample to the lab and have them test for it (a doctor needs to order it).

You can get Florastor from Newton-Timmeron Pharmacy: http://www.newtimrx.com/florastor.html

Best, Timaca
