I have read alot on these boards about herxing or lack of and just wanted opinions.
I started treatment with PCP 1/13/10 with doxy 100mg twice a day.
Started treatment than with LLMD 1/18/10 and she left me on doxy until 2/24 when I started ceftin. On 2/20 though I started babesia tx with mepron and zith. I am on of course TONS of supps in between.
I have had very minimal sx's since and only one case of severe back pain. Should I not speak about it so soon or am I MAYBE just not a herx person?
I am afraid I am not doing something right but my sx's have gotten better since I started tx, especially my energy It is near normal 90% of the time. I definately don't present with the severity of sx's compared to alot of ppl here mine were mild by comparison.
I know not everyone herxes and I read on another post that someone said it was because the liver and kidney could detox better because it was in better shape. Any truth to that? Why doesn't everyone herx?
Thanks for your replies!

Some people don't have a high infection load is one reason for possible not herxing.
Babs treatment doesn't useally cause a herx. A past president of ILADS (I write that so people don't think I "talking out of my elbow'& making c*&p up)
says yeast & spirochetal infections cause the most herxs due to die off toxins.
Babs & Bart usual don't cause great or even noticable herxing if your body flushes effectively.
As long as you're getting better treatment is working.

thanks DMC... I did read that somewhere that babs didn't usually cause a herx -Thanks for reminding me!
What makes the spirochetal load different in ppl, does anyone know? Is it how long you've been infected maybe? I THINK I have been infected for at least 3 years. (maybe more, I pulled a deer tick off of me 8 1/2 yrs ago.

I reread Dr B's info in Advanced Topics in LD and got my answer on spirochetal load..." The severity of the clinical illness is directly proportional to the spirochete load, the duration of infection and the presence of co-infections." I still don't understand why some ppl have higher loads than others.
Can the body get rid of some by itself to a point prior to tx?
The more I read the more confused I get!

I guess you saw my post where I did test positive for babs and I had some IND results on my WB? The only bands I was positive on were 41 I think.
Anyway... Did you see my sx list also? I have had 2 pretty bad episodes in 3 yrs that lasted for a few mos. Otherwise they are usually pretty mild. Does that sound like you?
One thing for sure, I realize how lucky I am to have questioned my sx's, coming across lymenet, and getting a dx from a LLMD very quickly. I just started this whole process the end of October and here I am 5 mos later having already been treated for 2mos.
And I have a GREAT hubby who has spent a small fortune already to get me better!

I have been sick for just over 9 months now.
My symptoms have been mild since the beginning, and I have only had one really obvious herx so far, three days after I started doxy.
On the other hand, I have been on some kind of treatment for 7 months, starting 10 weeks after I got bitten, but I still feel about the same as I did at the beginning.
However, I have had ups and downs and have reacted to the presence or absence of antibiotics, so I know they are doing something.
Appreciate your good fortune if you are getting better without herxing.
One theory I have about why my symptoms have been mild is that perhaps I am one of the lucky people who is genetically pretty good at getting rid of toxins.
Though maybe it is due to the strain of Lyme I have, the spirochete load might have always been low, my reduced carb diet has helped to reduce inflammation, or I haven't been infected long enough to develop worse symptoms (but possibly I could in the future).
It's very hard to tell, with this disease, what is a good sign or a bad one.
I think if you are being treated and getting better, that is a good enough sign that something is happening.
If you were treating and staying exactly the same, it might be that the treatment was having no effect. If you either get worse or better, it is probably working against something or other.
