I am currently on babesia treatment, including 4 tsp./day Mepron. So far, had not experienced any of the negative side effects of Mepron....until two days ago.

Started having extreme fatigue, and that "depressed or down" feeling. So, last night, didn't take the Mepron, and today I jump out of bed with renewed energy and life.

I decided to take the day off of Mepron, and start again tomorrow. Should I be toughing it out, or is it alright to scale back with these reactions? Anyone else have this experience?

thanks, nancy

Hi Nancy - 4tsp/day is twice the normal dose. Are you sure you're reading the rx instructions correctly? Usual dose is 2tsp/day, or more exact, 1tsp/bid.

When I had bad Mep herx, I just skipped the next dose and started back again, but you should check with your doc first. Confirm the amount you're rx'd (why twice the normal dose?) and if it's okay to cut back, if needed.

Good luck to you!

Ping, I started on 1 tsp. bid, and upped the dosage to 2 tsp. bid, about six weeks ago.

Something else is weird; had a broken blood vessel in my eye yesterday, which I've never had before. Today, my eyesight is much better, and there's no irritation.

Nancy, your post still doesn't tell me what I need to know. We're you rx'd 1 tsp/bid, or 2tsp/bid by your LLMD?

I also took 4 tsp per day, 2 tsp bid.

I flared regularly and often at the first day of the flare I'd skip just to let my body catch up, so I'd skip one or two doses in a row once per month if necessary (was only a few times), but not more than that.

I also did lots of detox. If it's been six weeks, perhaps it's a flare up/herx? Then you feel better because the flare is over? I normally felt better after a flare than I had before.

I was initially rx'd 1 tsp. bid, then after a month, upped to 2 tsp. bid by my LLMD.

For what it's worth, I read on someone's lyme blog, that a dosage lower than this is not effective against babesia.

Sixgoofly kids, any detox you can recommend? I'm taking alpha lipoic acid, burdock (instead of milk thistle), apple pectin, colon cleanse etc. I also have Jernigan Antitox II, but am hesitant because of the alcohol content. My LLMD wants me to try Pekana detox (which also contains alcohol).
