My GI dr. has me on protonics. My new insurance will no longer pay for them, and my dr. won't change them.

My guestion is: If I continue to take probiotics,
aleo, and avoid sugars will acid reflux go away.

I'm sure I can take over the counter supplements
(like the purple pill). Do I dare stop taking some form of protonic?

Tell your doctor that you cannot afford to pay out of pocket for the Protonix.

Ask for a prescription of omeprazole (generic Prilosec). It is a much cheaper alternative. If your insurance refuses to pay for the omeprazole it will still only cost $15-20 out of pocket. You can call around for prices (Walmart, Costco, etc...).

If omeprazole does not work well enough for you ask your doc to do a prior authorization for you. Your insurance may be willing to pay for the more expensive med if you treatment has failed on cheaper alternative.

Probiotics, aloe, and less dietary sugar will not prevent or repair the damage caused by reflux.

If you want to try a supplement look for DGL. I like Enzymatic Therapy brand "DGL Ultra". It is a chewable tablet. Take it before you eat, it helps. I've had to take it off and on throughout treatment when certain medications caused reflux symptoms.

Take care!

thankyou Sammy,

I went to my Vit. store today and bought Acid Soothe... it's a plant based enzyme hope it works.
I was taking pantoprazole $10.00 with insurance.
Insurance says it's too expensive and won't pay.

I can buy Prilosec at Walgreens for a fair price
and not need a rx.

Look into D-limonene.
The people reviewing it seem to be very happy with it.

Many people have way too little acid, not too much.

Drug companies are selling drugs + counting money, not dealing with real causes.

This has been known in the natural health field for years !

Acid is needed in the stomach to digest protein, kill parasites etc in food.

With todays diet + lifestyle acid is not produced sufficiently. So food cannot be digested well + the tummy hurts,

The antacids shut off digestion even more. Stomach calms down but food is not really digested at all. Digestive enzymes are good but get ones with lots of acid in them.

Or try betaine HCL which is acid. If that works you need it. If not then you probably do have too much acid - apparently 10% of us do have too much.

OK ?

My GI dr. changed my rx. I am now taking Nexium.

I don't understand insuranace co. Nexium cost more than what I was originally taking $199.00

verses $119.00. I pay 25. now instead of 10.00

Insurance co. must be getting a kick back.

Oh well at least Nexium works.

I tried the Acid Soothe(plant based enzymes)capsules., don't waste your money...0 relief.
