Well, I have all my lyme/bart/babs symptoms (lots of neuro) which came back over the past months and have been been pretty sick over the last few mths.
I doubt that it is from vit d, but just thought I'd ask if anyone had this happen and why a vitamin causes a herx.

Laurie everyone responds different to Vit.D. Some people feel they get positive results from it and feel better. Some like me only find themselves regressing which finally made sense to me when I started the Marshall Protocol and started avoiding D. Not trying to promote the MP but if your symptoms are coming back it could be the Vit. D is suppressing your immune system. You might want to lay off it for a couple of months and see how you respond. When I was supplementing with Vit D years ago when it became trendy I just got worse. Once again everyone is different and you are the Captain of your own ship.

When you take large doses of vit D, you can initially get effects of increased pain and feeling bad in general. Once you get past a certain threshold, you should feel better.....per a LLMD.
Once you get the D level to an optimal level, you need between 2000 and 4000IUs per day to maintain that level.

Vitamin D is an immune modulator!

Modulation makes more sense than suppression -- and you could be feeling bad because your immune system is now functioning properly.
Instead of dropping it to see how you feel, I'd recommend getting levels tested again, and going with lower doses if need be. D levels will then still get to normal range, but it'll just take a little longer.
Although if your 25-D was super low, and 1, 25 was super high... hmm.... how were your 1, 25 levels?

thanks guys, it is surprising that taking the vitamin can actually make you feel badly. I would think that it would make u feel better.

Optimistick, that happened to me a few years ago when I was ill, but didn't yet know it was LD. I took mega doses of D and when it got up pretty high, I felt so much better. Then my doctor took me off the big doses, saying my D was too high and within a couple of months I was so ill again. I have to wonder if I was about to go into remission. So now I am doing the D again! But this time I am on Doxy too.
Interesting TB study!
I read also that D can cut a womans risk of breast cancer by 50%.
And Lauri, I too feel like I am having a herx from the D. I have tested it. I take it and within a few hours I feel awful, and it last for several days, then starts to fade. Then I take it again and same thing. My LLMD said it will pass.
