I finally got a course of Coartem from Walgreens after being told th company (manufac) had it on indefin. backorder.

I was scared to death to take it after reading previous posts from others. Didnt know what to expect.

Just finished up my 3 day dose last night and was just wondering if anyone else has had newer experiences with this med.

To be honest I didn't/haven't seen any difference yet. No major herx and/or side effects (yet)??

Except for headache today..but I didnt sleep at all last night. Woke up at after 2 half hours of sleep and was still up until after 4 am.

I dont have another appt with my LLMD until 2nd week of June but Im not sure if I should call and ask for another round...

not sure if you need to do more than 1 round of it or if it's just been a waste (Big) waste of my money. ):

Thanks for any input.

K (:

P.S. I think the Dr wants me to go back on Flagyl...Rifampin....Zitromax combo (perhpas until I see him again)

Thanks for posting!

Are you taking it for babesia? Maybe you don't have babs or you have a strain that is resistant?

I am taking artemisinin 3 days each week along with daily bactrim ds and this is my 7th weekend completed at this time.
I thought there was nothing to it on 1st week (100 mg twice /day) the next week I increased the dose frequency to 3x/day and I was yawning constantly
getting chills and jaw tremor and other Babs type symptoms for me. Now my Babs symptoms are fewer and farther between. Artemether and
artemisinin are both in same general class so
get ready for more flu like reaction as you continue, assuming you have Babesia of course.

Dr Z (herbal doc in NYC) suggests to take artemesia for 9 months... They sell a couple of different forms of it. ART 2 is stronger. There are a bunch of derivatives, as well...

I've been taking it (artemesinin) for a couple of months & I think it's doing something positive. Definitely something's going on.

I think babesia needs a longer framework for treatment than malaria.

I would take 2 rounds of Coartem. I took Riamet which I purchased from on online pharm from Europe and it helped me greatly, just wished I ordered 2. I never had a neg effect from the drug, and I never had a adverse effect from any abx except for the first time I started abx. I caught my lyme right after I got it, from my husband. Have been off abx for 4 years, but was initially on it for 2.

If you have had babesia for a while - it may take longer to treat it... I've been ill for over 15 years - 9 years were without any treatment. Just a thought.

My LLMD has had me on Coartem (twice a day) for the last five weeks but there has been no response.

It sounds like others here are leery of Coartem?

Is Coartem really bad for you? What's the longest someone should take it?

I did a couple rounds of Coartem in the fall. It seemed to help reduce my symptoms for a couple days after each treatment but the effect did not last.

Before trying Coartem in the fall I had been on Mepron and Biaxin for about a year. I've been on Malarone since then.

I can't seem to get these infections under control.

I, like sammy, did a couple of rounds. Actually I did three rounds, had good results but they didn't last.

I then did it daily but couldn't get the same results. It did relieve some symptoms which haven't returned so I'm grateful for that.
