Is anyone using this, or has tried it in the past? I am just starting it on the advice of my doctor and would like to hear others' experiences.

I am still on 2 antibiotics and all the other probiotics/supps. that I've been taking.

I read that vitamin C helps the body fight viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and also toxins and even tumors. Sounds like a good thing if you don't know what all you're fighting.

I am not doing "salt/C" and taking extra salt. I am afraid that too much salt could be dangerous. People have died quickly from too much salt without enough water or from too much water without enough salt.

However, the sodium ascorbate powder is essentially ascorbic acid plus a bit of baking soda. You can tolerate a lot more of it than regular ascorbic acid and it doesn't bother your stomach.

I wonder whether the extra sodium content or the baking soda itself has any effect apart from its interaction with the ascorbic acid?

I don't like the taste in plain water or tea so I've been mixing it with a little orange juice. I am currently taking about 27g per day. If I sip it slowly every hour or two, it doesn't give me diarrhea.

I am not sure, but I think if you can't get sodium ascorbate, you could mix the right ratio of ascorbic acid and baking soda in liquid and make it yourself. I don't know what the ratio is, though. I can't find it in any local health stores, so I have had to order it online. If anybody knows a reliable/cheap source, that would be helpful.

I found it interesting that somebody recently posted a thread on the possible uses and benefits of baking soda.

I heard secondhand about a Lyme patient who put himself into remission with this. It is cheap and not very dangerous, so I am happy to try it out and see what happens.

I think the main dangers are diarrhea (easily controlled by taking less) and possible imbalance of other vitamins or minerals (not sure about that yet, but I take other vitamins and my doc told me to do a blood test in a couple of months that checks levels of a bunch of nutrients, so it should be okay).

I have read that sodium ascorbate is the form commonly used for IV vitamin C, which can be given in even higher doses at a faster rate, but costs a lot more and has the infection risks of any IV. I think that taking it orally is still pretty good.

Does anybody have any good, bad or neutral experience with this? I have only been doing it for about 4 days so far, and haven't noticed any change yet.

It may help but will not replace antibiotics. I did about 6 months of IV C when I was first sick and it didn't even make a dent. I then went started Minocin and within 2 months I was exercising again.

Actually, ascorbate seems to be pretty cheap.

I have had very good results with homemade liposomal vitamin C.

I found it even cheaper than that from a seller on Amazon.

I am still continuing on doxy and Biaxin--this is NOT in place of antibiotics but along with them, and probiotics and vitamins, fish oil, etc.
