Hello, My child was dx with Lyme in April of this year, she has had Lyme for 6+ years, she is 13.
She was put on Azithromycin and Minocycline before the labs were drawn. Three months later I asked for a copy of the lab results.
When I received the results I was unaware she was co-infected. No one called to discuss the co-infections so I assume that the current abx she is on supposed to treat them.
I don't want to have to call AGAIN or to doubt their course of action, however I would like to be reassured that we aren't missing something.
I would appreciate any help or feedback:
WB IGM: POSITIVE
**23-25 kDA - **31 kDA +++ **34 kDA + **39 kDA IND **41 kDA + **83-93 kDA IND
I will not take anything literally as I know they are just opinions and none of us are doctors.
Thanks so much for your time and reassurance.

Looks like Igm positive Lyme. IgM positive (active) babesia Ducani and (past) infection of mycoplasma pneumoniae
also vit d is low
not sure about immune complexes.
Not a doctor this is my opinion.
She should be treated with mepron and other drugs.
I would be so mad

Hi Emma's mom. My 10 yr. old daughter was also diagnosed with Lyme and Babesia this May. She was fortunate in it was only 8 doctors over 8 months before a correct diagnosis.
I belive you should read Dr. B's Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease it is a good start for understanding and treatment.
We saw Dr. J in New Haven in early May and he is following what Dr. B wrote. Mepron and Zithromax - this is for the Babesia which needs to be treated to help the immune system fight the LB.
The Zithromax does hit the L form of the lyme borrelia but it is not the favored drug. I assume after 4 to 6 months we add a drug to this to start after the LB.
My daughters lab confirmed the LB but not the Babesia.
On vitamin d3 you should probably read Dr. Hollick's work from the Vitamin D Clinic at BU.

With Babesia you need the mepron to break the coating the parasite forms once its in the red blood cell, then the zithromax kills it.
This is the best treatment with the other one having some bad side effects and only a 50% cure rate (first used with malaria, a similar parasite to babesia).
Good luck.
Are you seeing a LLMD or just a regular doc.

The d 3 level is low but my daughter was initially under 25 when she was first diagnosed with chronic fatigue. The Infectious Disease MD didnt' even test for this I did and then started giving her 2000 iu a day.
She is now in low 80's. Low d3 has been associated with fatigue.

I called and asked if she had elevated levels of Babesia why isn't she being treated for that.
She said the doctor didn't think it was necessary at this point. I am so confused and wondering what I should do!

Doesn't sound like an LLMD if she thinks the babesia can be ignored. Maybe she just isn't going to treat it right away?? Sometimes you need to knock down the Lyme a little (for maybe 1-3 months) then tackle the babs.
t9im.. What is LB??

Lymetoo:
LB, sorry this is the Lyme Borrelia and from my readings & understanding Dr. J is treating my daughters babesia co infection. Once this is taken care of the treatment will change to put the primary focus on the Lyme borreila bacteria.
The Mepron and Zith is the Babesia treatment. Mepron breaks the coating and Zith kills the parasite babesia. While normal treatment for babesia is 1 month if diagnosed early, if not diagnosed early or with Lyme, treatment is minimun of 4 months (from Dr. B's guidelines).
While Zith is used for the Lyme bacteria its results is not as good as other medications (something to do with the ph level once the spirochete bores into cells) and at least when used orally is OK for the non cell wall form.
Once the babesia co infection is erridacated the immune system should help in fighting the lyme. I also assume other drugs are added to the treatment to go ofter the spirochete and cyst forms.
