Hey guys-
As you all know according to my last post I am making some progress again (50-70% some days)
Anyway, I have a rx for Alinia and plan on using it soon, but wanted to check how you who have used it have dosed it and what meds you have taken it with.
Please copy & paste if this applies:
1) Did you take it w/ abx? 2) Did you herx from it? 3) Did you improve on it? 4) What was your dose and how long were you on it? 5) Any other relevant information....
Thanks much in advance
Derek

I'm on my 3rd dose (500mg BID) of Alinia. Taking it for Babesia. Haven't noticed any herxes, side effects, or improvements yet. I've only been prescribed a 5day trial of it. Hope it works quickly.

Anyone else?

I also just finished a 5 day trial. 500 mg 2x a day for 5 days. Didn't notice much of anything, some lower stomach cramps. But then, I don't really think 5 days would do much.

I will give you the brief run-down on my experience with it. I'll be brief because I only have so much energy at the moment.
I took it awhile back, for babesia and possibly other "unknowns". I got up to two pills twice a day at one point, but that dose was making me vomit or have extreme nausea, so I had to back down to one pill twice a day.
I think the pills were 500 mg...I can double check.
As I recall, I didn't herx after starting it. It might have given me a tiny bit more fatigue....just from being on one more drug.
But then when I/"we" decided to stop it, I got night sweats and vivid dreams the very first night off it. And I think I also got night sweats when I went from the higher dose to the lower dose.
So it seems like it was "hitting" the babesia for me, but it didn't really "eliminate" babesia....from my perceiption.
When I stop any babs med, I normally get night sweats the very first night I stop. This has happened with Malarone and Mepron too.
However, we are questioning if I really have many symptoms on a daily basis from babesia. It seems, ironically, the only time I show symptoms of it is sometimes when we hit it hard (like a "herx") or when we pull a babs med away.
So it didn't really help me overall, but we don't really know if babesia is an issue for me anyways, symptom-wise....though we know I have it, since I've had multiple positive tests.
And the sweats after stopping it suggest it was hitting babesia. But overall....meh. For me it was about as meaningless as the time I wasted on Mepron. haha.

I have taken Alinia.
Did i herx? who knows, I always feel bad
Did it help? again, who knows? I also did mepron, malarone rounds for Babesia. The separate courses of all three drugs appear to have knocked back symptoms that I would attribute to Babesia.
I was rx'ed 500mg 2 x daily for 2 weeks
I tolerated Alinia well...
I took it pulsed with IV Invanz

I should also mention that my doctor theorized that Alinia was also an effective cyst buster.
