Hello.

Is lower back cramping a typical symptom of lyme/bartonella?

I am currently treating a flare up with Ceftin. I'm currently on 1000mg/day, but will increase to 1500mg/day.

I've been on Ceftin for about 2 weeks.

After that, I will add Bactrim DS.

I am having back cramping in my extreme lower back. It actually feels like menstrual cramping (which I get in my lower back).

The left side of the lower back seems to hurt more than the middle or right.

I take probiotics and other supplements.

Is this a typical lyme/bartonella thing, or is this a sign of organ damage?

Thanks so much!

i wish i had some answers for you but just to let you know i get the exact same thing.

in fact i ended up the ER a few times and they finally did an ultrasound of the pelvic area. also a transvaginal one. and of the organs. nothing. zip.

this was one of my first lyme symptoms too and can get really bad. i hope that with treatment this improves. good luck to you to, maybe someone will come along with some answers and good news.

oh and i have tried NSAIDS, heat, walking around, increasing probiotics, all that.

Thanks, pugs.

Sorry that you deal with the same thing. Recent bloodwork came back good for liver and kidney function, etc.

Some days, it's my upper back. Others, it's the lower.

I've just recently started having this exact symptom...like in the past 2 weeks.

It doesn't last all day and isn't unbearable, but as you said it is like menstrual cramps...only I know it is not that.

I'm going to have my liver, kidneys checked too since I've been off/on abx for over a yr now.

You sound like my daughter. She has terrible back spasms. They move around all over her back. We are suspecting it could be babs.

I actually had a few ok days, but today stinks.

I get concerned about what the meds might do to my digestive system, etc. I keep running to the bathroom, feeling pains in my side, etc.

It could even be gas. I drank lemon water from a straw the past couple of days, so I'm guessing that could cause gas.

I hope the discomfort ends soon. That way, I can chalk it up to a bad day.

This just feels lousy.

Another thing I wondered...

Could this be a kidney stone? What are the symptoms of that?

So srooy you are all going through this too.

Mine started about two years ago and has become worse and worse and it starts on the left just around my lower rib cage. Now it spreads across my abdomen and up my back but still seems to stay on the left hand side or middle back.

I have morphine, codien and tylenol three none of these help. The pain does go away when i take my immovain at night.

I have just bought a product called nurofibe it does mak a difference but not enough time to tell if it is good or bad.

I did some research on the spine as i really feel it has something to do with the nerves in the gut. The reason i say this is when i had a colonoscopy done the pain was so severe at the hepatic angle that they had to stop the proceduire and that is exactly the same spot mine starts.

So i did some reasearch on the spine and found a place on the spine and now i dont remember the name where nerves come out and right around that area and when those nerves are damaged the symptoms listed seem to be very like mine.

I just posted re my first spine mri had done today, it was the top of the spine and the mri seemed to increase the pain till i was out of my mind. was aksing if anyone knew why this might be.

when i get the results i will let you know.

Edited to apologize for mistakes, still reeling from earlier and still in terrible pain.

Hi maps,

So sorry for what you're going through. I hope you improve and get some sweet relief.

It sounds like these types of aches and pains are all part of the illness.

Unfortunately for us, right? [Smile]

I recently had a brain scan mri but had no pain. I wonder why you experienced pain during your test.

I wish you all the best!

I had severe back pain before diagnosis and then spasms off and on during treatment. Treating bart seems to have eliminated this symptom.

This is not exactly what i was trying to find, i know it is somewhere in these nerves.

Thought i would post the link as it mentions lyme as a possible cause [confused]

I have had two head mri without problems but this spine one seemed to shake up all the nerves.

Settling down now as i am off to bed so have taken immovain ahhh no pain. By the way some of the pain is ice cold pain, don't know if that is what others have. Even though it is hot my electric blanket is on to warm up the area.

We will hopefully get to the why soon.

nefferdun,

This is probably my issue. My first LLMD apparently did not really treat my bartonella. I was only on Doryx.

Now, with my new LLMD, I am on Ceftin and soon to be on Bactrim DS.

I am hoping that the bart treatment will finally alleviate this mess.
