I am on amoxil, flagyl and levaquin. I don't believe any of those get the intracellular form of lyme, but correct me if I'm mistaken (flagyl gets the cyst, amoxil gets the spirochetes in the blood and levaquin gets bart, right?).
Prior to starting levaquin, I was on biaxin, which I believe is intracellular. Since I've gone off the biaxin and started the levaquin (about 3 mths ago) my arthritis, which had not previously been a big problem, has gotten increasingly bad.
Is this likely because you need an intracellular abx to address arthritis and bacteria in the joints?
I just don't know why, after 2.5 years of treating this, my arthritis seems to be getting so bad. I feel like I'm 80 and I'm only 30. The only thing I've really done differently is gone off the Biaxin for the first time since I started the lyme treatment.
Thanks for any information on which abx work best for arthritis, and if an intracellular form is required.

yes, Biaxin was dropped b/c of Levaquin interaction.
Oh, I see. Intracellular means working inside the bacteria... not inside OUR cells? I was thinking intracellular meant that it got into human cells that would not typically be otherwise penetrated by certain types of antibiotics.
I misunderstood.
Thank you!
