I have been treating lyme/babesia with Mepron/Zith/Tindamax for about ten months. My LLMD wanted me to add Lariam a while ago, but was hesitant due to the reported side effects.
I took my three pill loading dose a week ago, and last night took my one-every-five-days dose. I feel better on the days I take the Lariam.
Anyone else have this experience with Lariam, and can it be taken more than every five days? I'm wondering if I should take it more often, or if that is recommended by other LLMD's? Obviously, I would consult with my LLMD before upping the dose, just wanted any feedback.

No, you don't want to take it more. It's a once a week pill, so every five days is already more often than is "normal". I took it every five days, too.

Six, did you feel Lariam helped your symptoms too? Maybe it's like Mepron and the effectiveness builds up over time.

Did you have a kill off (herx) at any point on Lariam, or did you just feel better the days you were on it?
I am very fascinated by this.....haven't heard of someone just feeling better.
How much Mepron were (or are) you taking per day? Maybe your dose of Mepron was high enough that most of your babesia is gone....or maybe you are just lucky to not have a die-off.
I have never taken Lariam, just have heavily considered it. I may still try it.

Hoosiers, I have only been on Lariam for ten days. So far, the days I've taken it, the better I've felt. For example, the tightness in my leg is loosened, and arthritis-type symptoms improved.
Hopefully, I will not herx, haven't had any negative side effects so far (knock on wood).
My doctor doesn't believe in switching abx. She piles them on, and never takes any away. So, I have been on 2 tsp. Mepron bid, 500 mg. Tindamax bid, and 600 mg. Zithromax, along with 100 mg. minocycline...and now added Lariam 250 mg. every five days.
Before starting Lariam my symptoms had improved greatly (70%), which I credit to Mepron. It seems (and this is just my gut) that Lariam is picking up where Mepron left off, and continuing to improve symptoms.
Six, My babesia also worsened on Malarone, so switched back to Mepron. So, you took Lariam by itself, and not with Mepron?

Thought I would give an update, in case anyone is interested in Lariam.
I started to notice that by the fourth day after taking Lariam, some of my symptoms returned. My LLMD just corroborated that she's had that experience with other patients, and has upped their dose to one pill every four days.
So, it wasn't all in my mind, and am very encouraged that this is making a positive difference!
