I live in Southern Indiana and believe that I have Lyme disease but docs can't seem to diagnose me. Looking for a Lyme specialist around here. Am willing to travel.

Thanks.

Michele,

Could you tell us a little about your symptoms, testing done, doctors seen, etc?

Thanks for your reply...here is what I posted on the medical section this a.m.

I was bit by a very small tick on 9/8/07 - removed the tick when I found it on 9/10/07. The bite continued to itch a little but then I noticed a bulls eye rash around where the tick bit me about a week later. I went to the doc the next morning and he put me on Doxycycline for 10 days. No Lyme test was done at that time. The rash went away but I started feeling bad once the Doxy was gone. I went back explaining that I was felling very achy all over - like I had the flu but about 5 times worse than that. I also feel like I have things inside my body that are "munching" on me. I also feel as if my brain is swollen and have pressure in my head and ears.

He put me on Penicillan for 14 days - while on the Penicillan I did not feel any better. Went into my doctors office this past Tuesday crying stating that I felt so bad. He put me in the hospital for observation and ran every test you could imagine but they all came back negative including Lyme. They ended up doing a spinal tap on me and now I'm having problems with my back/head from that.

So, here I am back at home with all tests negative and people thinking I'm some sort of looney.

In your opinions as Lyme patients should I seek out a Lyme Disease specialist even though everyone here has told me I do not have it?

Thank for your reply. I have two children a wonderful husband and good job and I can't keep feeling like this.

PS - before they put me in the hospital I had some good days - is it normal with Lyme to have good days mixed with bad days?

I forgot to mention they (my internist & infectious disease phys) have tested for lyme, rocky mountain, meningitis, and a bunch of other tests that I've never heard of. They finally told me Thursday that I have a viral infection of some kind.

Michele, I'm in Louisville. I had a rhuemi tell me 7 yrs ago that I had a virus in my body that couldn't be identified and as soon as that virus was over, so would my aching, hurting be gone.

I'm still waiting for that VIRUS to go. By the time I went to this specialist I had been fortunate enough to have my PCP saying lyme because he was from the Northeast and he recognized my symptoms.

I was at least 2 mths of abx into this illness when PCP thought I needed to see specialist, so he sent me to ID doc and he laughed at the lyme diagnois and said my symptoms sounded like Toxic Shock syndrome (I happened to mention something relating to tampon use).

When I went to rheum after two months of many combos of abx I was still running fevers 102 everyday for two months.

I would highly recommend you do a search on this site and consider seeing Dr. C in Sprinfield, Missouri. He has a web site also if you are interested.

Pam

Michele,

I also live in Southern IN about one hour north of Evansville. I travel 8 hours to PA to see my LLMD. A lady in my office travels to a different doctor for Lyme. I also know of a 5th grader in the area who saw an LLMD in CT.

What I am saying is that I haven't found an LLMD in IN as of yet. I have heard that there are some who treat Lyme un-advertised but I haven't been able to find out who they are.

My LLMD has helped me, I am doing better than when I went to see him in June of 2006.
