Hello everyone. This a great resource. I'm so relieved to have found it. Below, I've posted a narrative account of my symptoms and tests. Earlier today, I went to my PCP to further discuss the possibility of Lyme (my first test was negative). He took more blood for a retest and prescribed 21 days of Doxycycline. I've since read that such treatment might be inadequate, and would like to be evaluated by a LLMD. I would prefer one that accepts insurance, if possible. Thank you so much in advance for all of your generously volunteered time.

Since November, I've been suffering from back pain on my right side--between my upper lumbar area and lower thoracic area. The pain typically occurs a few inches to the right of my spine, several ribs up.

The pain is occasionally felt as tenderness on my right flank, in particular when I'm laying on that side (which I try to avoid), but otherwise is an internal pain that I generally can't reproduce by pressing anywhere.

The pain started as a dull ache, but has recently felt "crisper." I've been having occasional pangs of pain that feel like pinched nerves.

I have also had mild to moderate fatigue that presented at the same time as the pain. I have a harder time waking up in the morning and am lethargic throughout the day. I have occasionally been waking up with slight chills--I'll wake up curled into a ball. A few seconds after I wake up, my temperature seems to return to normal. I have no fever or sweating accompanying the chills.

Finally, over the past few weeks, I've felt muscle soreness in my thighs, shins, and forearms, as well as pain in my ankle, wrist, and right knee. My muscles have also been twitching more frequently. This could be unrelated, but I can't think of any exercise or exertion that could have caused it. I haven't felt right for months, so I've been staying home.

DIAGNOSTICS:

I have had a fairly sophisticated work-up.

2 CT scans of the abdomen/pelvis, one with IV contrast - Normal
Colonoscopy - Normal
X-Ray of lumbar spine - Normal
X-Ray of ribs - Normal
Chest X-Ray - Normal
MRI of lumbar and thoracic spine - Normal
Ultrasound of kidneys - Normal
Ultrasound of gallbladder - Normal
Bloodwork (lyme disease, mono spot, Epstein-Barr) - Negative (positive for chronic EBV, because of mono I had 5 years ago)
Thyroid - Normal
CMP - Normal
several CBCs - Normal, except for slightly high Eosinophil percentage (8%), and slightly elevated C-Reactive Protein (0.9 mg/L). My doctor did not believe either was significant. Red and white counts are normal.

print off pages 74 - 92; outstanding info there. i believe there are a few more general comments there without links!! print that off too as it's newer info from members thru their own personal, tragic experiences.

Betty's POSTING GUIDELINES . many of us have neuro lyme where we can NOT read long solid block text and be able to comprehend and read it as is.

please edit your post by CLICKING PAPER/PENCIL ICON to right of your name. that opens up BOTH subject line and body text.

now please break up your WORDY SENTENCES into one sentence paragraphs. Then hit ENTER KEY ``TWICE`` after each paragraph; we need that space for comprehension.

NOTE: you do NOT have to use "", just show the name of person you are responding to, and then type your comment.

IF you need to use "", PLEASE DELETE "BOLD" CODES so it's regular type text we read vs. the DARK, HARSH/PAINFUL BOLDING. delete the first 4 characters of 2ND LINE of a ""

[QB] just delete these 4 characters, and BOLDING is GONE! my eyes will really appreciate that; it's one very bad side effect of my having lyme for 38.5 years!! xox

then go to left hand corner and mark box to receive ALL REPLIES, and click EDIT SEND

we thank you for helping us; [Wink] otherwise, we will SOB, SCROLL ON BY, since we can't read to help you. If I see posts like this, I SOB them; to hard on me.

People seeking doctors might be able to get help from their state online information and support group. Nearly 3,400 people belong to state groups. Some of the groups are small but more than 20 of them have 50 or more people and seven have over 100.

To find your state group, go to
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/statenamelyme

Type your state name and lyme as one word, like this -
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/newyorklyme

South Carolina is the only state that needs a hyphen between the statename
and lyme, e.g. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/southcarolina-lyme

The groups are moderated and you have to apply. Most don't allow doctor names, but once on the group, you can ask for doctors in a certain area and ask people to email you privately.
