What have others of you done trying to explain some of the neuro issues of lyme to your employer? I have been on a roller coaster the last year at work. I have managed to there 40 per week now but have been on the edge of not being able to keep up. I work in a Corporate environment that is very demanding. There is a major lack of compassion and understanding how this disease goes in cycles and can change how one is affected. I have spoken to my team lead in my department but they don't believe all of this. They are trying to find ways to get ride of me by documenting every little error that occurs in my performance. I have kept up a pretty good front from how I am really feeling, but my abilities have been affected in major ways. I was out for a number of weeks due to how bad I was affected and the Med department has documentation that I have lymes but how else can one cover ones butt.

Hey John...

I am amazed that you continue to try so hard to keep going at your job. It is a huge effort, I'm sure. Good for you!

I am not sure how to handle office workers.. but the alligator pit might be the place to start? In my job I dealt mostly with trees, bears, deer, history, poachers, and ticks, of course.. so human interaction in the office is not my "thing"... sorry!

Maybe try to provide the office folks.. the ones in charge.. or co-workers... with some medical literature documenting the problems. There are a number of good and official medical documents that if they have on file.. MIGHT later be to YOUR advantage if needed legally.

The other thought would be to put the shoe on the other foot tomorrow morning.

Start by asking them what they can do to help you do better. They must accomadate YOUR disabilities from what I understand... but only if you request help and let them know officially what the problems are.

You might want to contact the Americans With Disabilities Act folks... or look up info on their web site?

This would make them have to listen and respond to your needs. You should also ask who is their disability co-ordinator at the office. I believe offices with a certain number of people must have someone they have named as a contact person who is required to provide info.. but don't quote me on that. Be sure to get the facts first.

Make THEM help you since you are needing it at this point... that way they can't "can" you for your health needs.

I hope that helps some?? Let us know... and good luck to you!

John,

FMLA is your friend. Use FMLA. Document everything with FMLA--and document, document, document. If you are feeling like thye are gunning for you make a list. Write it in your Franklin Planner--that is a legal document.

I am sorry you are going through this. I have never taken legal action but was in the same boat. The company ended up not giving me work and telling me that was the reason. Actually that was right when I was diagnosed and got my sleep test. I was getting no REM sleep. I was a pretty useless employee--but I was trying.

There are laws set up to protect you--you just need to document your struggles. Go to the Human Services department and talk to them about your problems--or even better if you know someone in that job area outside of your company ask them for advice. Talk to your doctor and get documentation from him and have it put in your file. Document, document.

Good luck,
L

John, here is some wonderful ammunition for you from Cheryl's site:
www.lymeinfo.net
http://www.lymeinfo.net/neuropsych.html

look thru all of this; 1st one by Marian is excellent showing all the neuro lyme sumptoms. I sent this to the chief admin law judge for my 6-16 hearing coming up, and referred his staff to 4-5 other neuro related articles...

best wishes; been there & done that too....

I applaud you for trying to do your best under very difficult circumstances.

If you decide to file for SS disablity insurance benefits, post a separate post for that & I'll give you great links that I wished I would have known about 5 yrs. when I started his stressful route.

There are ways to be approved, 1st time on 1`st STEP, if done correctly and your medical reports are detailed & thorough.

I agree...document, document, document.

Also, if you're the only one they're keeping a book on, you may have a case for selective persecution.

Another thing to document is when another employee messes up and they don't document his KNOWN error.

All in secret, of course.
