We had come back yesterday from my Lyme appointment out of state to find Mom's Siamese in critical condition. We rushed him to the vet hospital but died within the hour. Vet said cat had cardiomyopathy, an abnormal enlargement of the heart and that was the cause. Vet also said they could not have done anymore than they did. Cat was not very old, middle age in cat years. Mom was devastated as she treated him like a small child and they were very close. Mom cried all night long. I wish I could do something to dry away her tears. Thanks, just needed to vent.

I'm so sorry for your loss!
I lost my 12 year old Border-Collie to dilated cardiomyopathy in February. I called him my "first-born" son. I tried to find out what was wrong with him for two years.
Misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis, I wonder now if it could have been from TBDs. The vet gave me too little too late. I actually had to watch him suffer through a bad, eventually fatal, reaction to digoxin. It was awful.
I'm still grateful for all the happy times we had with him. He was such a good dog.
God bless! You & your Mom are in my prayers!
Ali

Skater, please express my sympathies to your Mom and yourselves!
I'm getting to log off now, but if you go to TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS, look on the last page of his continuous links.
You will find my SYMPATHY POEMS I posted, and I believe someone added a sympathy poem about ANIMALS.
Skater, in medical, someone had questions about eye exam & special eye problems. If you get the chance, will you read that since you've had so many problems and can suggest to them where to turn to next since you've been there; done that! Thanks my friend. Bettyg

Wow, sorry to hear this. I wanted to mention that we lost a cat in this same way. We adopted 2 kittens (brothers) a few years ago. One of them when only a year old suddenly started with severe pain in his hind legs and was paralyzed from the midsection down. Also lost bowel and bladder control. He was a buff tabby appropriately named Buff. We took him to the vet immediately and the vet said he had cardiomyopathy and his heart had finally become so weak that his heart threw a clot which lodged above the spinal cord, paralyzing him. He was in horrible pain so we had to put him to sleep right away rather than watch him suffer so. He belonged to my 12 yr old daughter and that was the hardest thing to tell her when Buff died. So I can relate to your pain. Vet said it is an inherited condition but luckily his brother seems OK several years later. Do not want that to happen again!
We are cat people and a loss is always hard. The best to you.

For your Mom: The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Dear One,
I have avoided opening this post for a few days, because my kitty is also a bit ill at the moment...and it was just too close to home and too heartbreaking for me.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I do understand the loss of a fury loved one...it hurts as bad as any other loss. Especially when the pet was as close as your Mother's was.
Many prayers headed your way, that time and acceptance will begin the healing process.
My very best to you and yours, Melanie
